    A. He was never that good anyway?

    B. Froch ruined him?

    All comments welcome.

Pretty much - you can't ignore the first Andrade fight.

Even before Froch was landing his bombs, Bute looked shot.
I think the occasion got to him in Nottingham

Yes, Bute looked fragile but he has always looked like that since amateur days.

On the other hand I can't completely understand the exaggerated conclusions of his current form. While I agree with the majority about the most probable outcome of the rematch against Froch, I still appreciate some of the class he displays in the ring.

Timing and counter-punching. He is still capable of luring opponents into his shots, especially hooks and uppercuts. Something that comes naturally from him. Love to watch it.

One of the problems why he is easy to set up and force to the ropes is the ineffectiveness of his jab and movement. His defensive stance & movement on the ropes is vulnerable. While he has VERY good timing, which helps him to nail certain opponents when they jump on him, he will get punished against intelligent (enough) pressure fighters. Carl did this, and as long as Bute doesn't develop a more effective way to implement his jab and movement, it will happen again.

Just my initial thoughts after watching the fight. Congrats to Bute anyway, Grachev is not a bum.

Overall performance B-, for me. At times, it was less than that, sure. At times, is was B+ : some of the nice counter-punching, for example. Some of the nice body-shots and hooks.

I think Bute should have 2-3 more fights and then retire.

However, if he's fighting Froch next, it could be his last fight.

Bute needs to fight Froch again, do or die. He also needs to fight Pascal.

Froch is for pride and Pascal is for money and legacy, locally in Montreal. Both are for the fans too.

I think Bute should fight Froch next, take another tune-up, fight Pascal and then retire.

Bute is already clearly past his best. Froch took his soul, yeah. A tune-up wouldn't really make a difference to the end-result anyway. Bute is getting stopped by Froch again.

i dont know how you can be heavy favourite and undefeated and be shot having never taken sustained punishment? the occasion maybe affected him but lets not take anything away from Froch, he had the style and confidence to set about Bute and he took him apart and smashed through him

Bute's only hope in the rematch is catching Froch cold with something very very big and become the first man to stop him. If Bute cant do this within the first five minutes of fighting, he'll get demolished once again.

you need to realize how vitally important the mental state is.

From being unbeaten world champ, to losing like he did.

Big favorite getting absolutely thrashed in front of a hostile crowd. Hes not used to getting that reception and it would have taken so much out of him.

    Just like Lacey after Calzaghe.

When youre on your way up, a good win will raise you massively. A big loss tears your confidence apart and some fighters cant come back. Amir Khan is one of the better examples of how to come back after prescott. He did well and made the right fights. His last two fights were different stories however. But that shows how fighter go up and down becasue of mentality.

Sport is 90 mental. This shows just how true that statement is.

worst thing is Grachev fought like a poor man's Froch at times and Bute did not do anythin different to the Froch fight, if they rematch Froch is just gonna walk through him from the first 10 seconds

    this.

Maybe not shot but he bottled it. The crowd the occasion.

he was nervous as hell - in the same why lacy was before calzaghe lots of nervous movements and ticks. Bute wasn't great to start with got smashed by Carl and it wont be much different second time around.

    Did Bute win then?

Oh dear, he looked poor apparently, ha, nothing wrong with performing poor as long as you win, everybody has an off night, I've seen your savior perform poorly plenty of times.

You know, that Carl Froch is it?

Yes him....never looked bad in one fight has he him?

    Nooooo. :asskiss :smh

Lacking confidence, only showed a burst in the end, tried to be a bit more defensive minded but you could see it wasn't natural, no real technical improvements with movement or defence on the ropes. I expect pretty much the same in a rematch with Froch. Froch must be just as good as he was because anything less than the 100mph he was last time and Bute is the taller, rangier, faster fighter looking to score points but with the X factor of sneaky power.
