Never rated Lacy very highly what I said still stands he would have had a chance against all those you have mentioned.

 

Both Lacy and Bute have underated resumes if truth be told.

Lacy in a small amount of fights beat world rated Vanderpool, world rated Tsypko, world rated Pemberton and world rated R Reid who had not long before beaten undefeated Magee who is fighting Magee next, As well as Manfredo and Sheika who both challenged for world titles after losing to Lacy.

Bute beat Andrade when he was considered #3 SMW as well as Berrio, Bika, Magee.

They are fighters that looked very good until their 0 was taken. But dont look the same after.
Alot of fighters when they win world titles, are undefeated and look hard to beat, build a certain confidence. Credit has to go to the fighters who take the 0 and that confidence, because they often seem a bit easier to beat after. Sometimes its a certain fight they lose that take it out of them.
Kessler although getting on with things has never looked the same since, not the same foot movement, combinations and slipping of jabs.
Others take the defeats and seem to accept it and dont seem as badly affected, Froch and Magee, though the blueprints to beat them are often discovered

 

I could still see Bute gettin back back into the title picture if he wins or loses respectably against Froch in the rematch. If he gets bodied again, he's finished.

I knew Lacy was done after Joe tore him up tho. No comin back from sumthin like that.

Bute

Wins IBF title, TKO 11 Berrio(incumbent champion, first defense after beating Stieglitz)

Joppy- Never won a title at SMW, completely shot
Andrade 2x- Andrade never won a title.
Fulgencio Zuniga- never won a title
Edison Miranda-never won a title
Jesse Brinkley- never won a title
Brian Magee- never won a title (but he got an upgrade to "interim champion" last year)
Jean Paul Mendy- never won a title
Glen Johnson- won 2 LHW titles in the mid 2000s
Carl Froch- now 3X SMW champion, dominates Bute over 5 rounds


Lacy
Wins vacant IBF SMW title TKO8 Syd Vanderpool (who never won a title)
UD 12 Omar Sheika-who never won a title, and this was a contraversial fight
TKO7 Rubin Williams- Who never came close to winning a title
RTD7 Robin Reid- Reid last wore the WBC belt in 1997 I believe. They fought in 2005
TKO 2 Scott Pemberton- who never won a title.
Calzaghe emphatically dominates Lacy over 12 rounds in a unification bout.

**When I say "never won a title" I'm talking about major title, not some NABF, European championsh, IBO,etc.

So out of that many opponents, thats a lot of guys who never won a title. And given how relatively "easy" it is to win a championship these days with 4 major sanctioning bodies, that's saying something.

 

I think Bute might be able to come back a little as well. But he did look gunshy last night and that could be bad.

However, Bute might be able to rip the belt off Abraham, but negotiations would be the hardest aspect of that potential fight.

 

Bute is silver, froch is gold and ward is platinum.

Silver is cheap, gold is what everyone covets and platinum is apparently the best, but is boring and nobody wears it.

 

Bute fought and beat much better opposition than Lacy, he is and will go down as far greater than Lacy, he beat several B level guys in dominating fashion. Froch ruined him though, if this was before the Froch fight Grachev would've gotten KO'd by the 6 round. It's over folks, Froch stole his soul.

 

Even if Bute retires tomorrow and does nothing else, that was a great win for Carl Froch. I hate the revisionism in boxing

 

I think Abraham would relish a fight with Bute,Abraham a great fighter,but a poor boxer.Against Bute he'd have the toughness to take good shots,and the one punch power to finish the job.
Bute v Abraham would be like Taylor v Abraham,Abraham feasting on Frochs left overs after seeing how Froch did the job,i just don't see Abraham taking 12 rounds to get Bute out of there.

Unusual to see that sort of information with no reference to Calzaghe,and I found that refreshing.

 

Certainly possible that AA would win the fight. Certainly wouldn't rule him out as, even though he's not the huge puncher he was at middleweight, he can still punch and Bute doesn't have the toughest set of whiskers around.

I'm just not really sure where either guy is at at the present moment. Arthur has never looked like a SMW in any of his SMW fights and he's honestly mentioned he has had a lot of trouble with all the SMW's reach and height, and Bute would be know different in that regard. However, ...who knows where Bute is.

At any rate, being that both guys have large followings in Germany and Canada, and both represent a degree of risk to each other, I would be surprised if this fight happened.

 

Your on the money with the comments about Abrahams lack of physical size/strength at 168,but as you say Butes state of mind can't be very positive at the moment,whereas Abraham is on the up after capturing a belt at the weight.
I also can't see the fight happening,both are cash cows for there respective promoters unfortunately.

He'd certainly have a chance against them, it's not like any of them were elite titleholders.

I'd certainly favor Lacy over Magee. Magee's chin is a burden for him.

Lacy vs Bika would have been fun. Lacy might have a little bit of a system shock with Bika's style.

I think a peak Andrade would have given Lacy a lot of problems to be honest. It was always kind of alarming to see his opponents just completely empty the tank on him and he'd just be standing there.
