Remember Froch is 35 and will be 36 in July.he can't hang around forever until Bute feels "ready"

I'm sure he'll fancy his chances anytime in the next couple years though.

How many fighters have actually turned the tables on the same person that brutally stopped them like that? Walcott/Marciano? Nope.

Frazier/Foreman? Nu uh.

Barrera/Pacquiao? Barrera avoided that rematch for years.

 

I respect and understand what you're saying but do you think that if Bute had, say, 3 tune-ups in a row, he would become a better fighter than he was before he fought Froch? Or do you think he can be made to box fluidly again, to develop and use a very good jab, etc.

I don't.

His confidence (deep-in-the-bones confidence) is not coming back. As a result, he's lost a step.

His superficial overconfidence he seems not to be able to shrug off either. As a result, he doesn't want to change back to what made him successful.

So he's in a vicious spiral. Time will not get him out of it. And he doesn't have much time left either.

I would rather Bute lost 2 out of his last 3 against Froch, tune-up and Pascal, than him losing 2 out of his next 5 against tune-up, tune-up (L), tune-up, tune-up and Froch.

 

It has never been about L/Ws to me, but about LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE and daring to rise from the ashes of defeat to do better next time. (this is the moral aspect of the game that we all respect) Everything else is entertainment.

Let me make it clear, I don't wish for endless tune-ups, but if he has a time frame of maybe 2 more years of boxing in him, I would not go straight back at Froch, because Bute is still broken and will probably stay broken. At least, give him a bit of time to feel he would be able to stand in the same ring with Froch and feel he might have a chance. Yesterday did not convince me at all and I just hope his health is not in danger. I don't mind seeing him loose, I just don't wanna see him with a deer face jacked by spotlights anymore. That face was out there against Grachev, can you imagine if he does that against Pascal in Montreal.....such a great career going to waste for not being wise about Froch. That would, in my opinion, be a bad move. Still hope I'm wrong!

What you are really saying is that you are optimistic that given a bit more time he can come back stronger than ever, with as much confidence as he had before Froch, but also with a better jab, more movement, more combos, better strategy, etc.

It is just the fact that history repeats itself.

When a fighter who has been undefeated for a long time loses for the first time, often a little bit of them dies inside and they are never the same again. You can see that Bute is not what he once was. I would be very surprised if was to come back in anyway close to what he was prior to Froch.

 

He will never be as confident as he once was, but at least, he if can believe in his ability to move and let his hands go, instead of freezing with every hard shot, the outcome would be not as dreadful and if he copies the Johnson fight, he could stay alive against any top guys. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part!
