Ali a lock for top 5 but not Pep. You're being silly now. Those are the only fighters? Very dogmatic and irrational stuff.
King Hippo. The guy won his first 18 fights, had great power and stout defense and tons of hype about him. Then feather fisted Pauli Malinagi came along and punched him in the mouth, worked the body, and the fat **** was done. Hippo has gotten taken out my the little Italian pug in as fast as 38 seconds!! Wildly over-rated :deal This content is protected
If thats the case, why was Holyfield hell bent on cementing his legacy by beating Mike Tyson? Lennox Lewis delayed his retirement because he wanted to defeat Mike Tyson and cement his legacy. Who did Larry Holmes come out of retirement to fight? Who was Foreman obsessed with fighting? Tyson was the man to beat and they knew it. Tyson didnt need Bowe, Moorer or Lewis to cement his legacy, he had already established himself and was behind bars before these guys came on the scene. The only relevant guy Tyson didnt beat was Evander Holyfield
How many boxers achieve what he achieved at the age of 22? Why cant a boxer be past his prime if hes already cleaned out his division, unified three titles, made a few hundred million and is something like 37-0? By the time Tyson had his first loss, his only credible opponent and the only guy who stood a chance against him was a former CW. Wladmir Klit - was 24-0 and beat no one of note when he lost to Purrity. Vitali Klit - was 27-0 when he had his first loss to the first decent fighter he fought. Lennox Lewis -was 25-0 by his first loss, only a few fights earlier hed won his vacant belt and had his best win over Ruddock Riddick Bowe - 34-0. Outside of Holyfield the majority of his wins are over Tyson leftovers, and Tyson performed better as well. Evander Holyfield -was 28-0 when he lost to Bowe. Holyfieds title reign lasted just as long as Tysons. 2 Years. Larry Holmes - was 48-0, had already had a long reign, but never really cleared out his division George Foreman - was 40-0 and had only won his title 3 fights earlier. Joe Frazier -29-0, had cleaned out all of his division including Ali, the only person left was Foreman. Sonny Liston - was 7-0 when he lost to Martin Floyd Patterson - 13-0 when he had his first loss. Joe Louis - was 24-0 and hadnt even won the title yet The only guy who achieved anything similar to Tyson by his first loss was Joe Frazier
Everyone wanted to fight Mike because he put asses in seats, sold a lot of PPV's, and there was huge money involved, as I previously stated. Also, all those fighters wanted to fight him because they probably figured he was vastly OVER-RATED. Of course he was the man to beat. A guy who generates that much interest and money but cant actually beat anyone top notch is always gonna be "the man to beat". That was kind of my point.
Right now the Klitchsko's. They are terrible. Well, Wlad has become semi-decent. But they seem to have somehow earned credit in the boxing community with there 'dominance' over a laughably shitty division.
See, you are talking about a guy who was the legit champ for a year and a half and didnt beat ANY of the other great fighters in his era. Look at the reverence you hold him in. you are making the case perfectly why he is so over-rated :deal
The average record of a Klitschko KO victim is 26-2. Thats tied for the best opponent's record of all time as a heavyweight champion. You are right, the division is shitty, but its not for the lack of decent fighters. Its because the freak at the top is so much better than everyone else. Not sure what you want out of a heavyweight champion if you think that Wladimir is "semi-decent". Maybe you wish he was from the USA, UK or wish he was black?
If Duran's career ended with his victory over Sugar Ray...that run alone would be enough to warrant All-Time-Great status. I really don't think children these days understand what he did in the 70's.
Record against who exactly? Stop dragging race / nationality into this bro. It has nothing to do with it. I have no problem with the Klitchsko's, I just think they are medicore. It just so happens they are hulking, 7 feet tall, semi-decent boxers and the other guys in the division are flat out terrible, and that's being nice. Look at their records - it's a who-who list of nobodies. I just don't think they deserve high praise for dominating a divsion that really any top tier HW from the 90's or before that would probably be dominating as well.
