Slightly disturbed..Roberto Duran and Steroids

On one of his youtube videos, a random youtuber wrote that he was most probably on steroids...

8 months after his last win at lightweight against Esteban De Jesus weighing 134, he came into the ring against Obando at 151lbs.

He also put on 8 1/2 lbs in 4 months from Fernandez to Muniz (this was before he moved back down to lightweight to fight Esteban De Jesus for the last time).

There were less stringent testing back then.

Roberto Duran used to balloon a lot after fights - however when he comes to cut and be ready for fights, surely he was in good shape by the time he was fighting someone like Obando?

I think this kind of weight gain is slightly suspicious but I still think there could be an explanation. Can someone put this to rest please?

diuretics are a more likely explanation for this period and weight class.

Did beer and french fries have anabolics in them back then?

He was a big lightweight. A modern lightweight really.

Hence why when he 'moved up' he was just cutting less but then ballooned up even more between fights (between the Leonard fights, unlikely he would've went that far if he'd have to make 135 again within the year)

His binges were legendary. I wouldn't say it was 'proof' he was on 'roids, certainly not off the back of a YouTube comment.

I'm predicting 30+ pages and a massive Duran Vs Floyd prime for prime argument within 3 or 4....

I'll say 6 pages, an argument about Montreal and how Ray fought the wrong fight, followed by a poop joke and pages about how Duran couldn't best movers.

Sugar Ray from their 2nd fight smokes Montreal Duran too, he clearly fought the wrong fight the first time around

Duroid wouldn't even have fought Mayweather, especially if Floyd asked for stricter testing :bart

The point doesn't make sense. Duran wasn't putting on muscle between fights, he was getting fat. Like someone else pointed out, maybe diuretics to lost the weight, but I think beer and rich food worked just fine for putting it on.

Could be. It wasn't just that Leonard fought the wrong fight in Montreal, he was admittedly intimidated. I was at the fight and you could see it when Leonard entered the ring.
