Golovkin fights Oosthuizen on January 19th in New York on HBO up at 168. Ward is pencilled in to fight TBA ( most likely Pavlik ) on January 26th also on HBO. I know tv dates with HBO are like goldust but it does seem a bit coincidental that they want Golovkin, who HBO are very big on, a week before Ward. Ward is pretty thin on options if you think about it. If Golovkin's power is genuine at 168 and he destroys Oosthuizen then it makes things very interesting.
Hmmm :think. With Ward moving up to 175 pretty soon, they would need to match the two pretty quickly if that's the case. Too quick for their liking, in fact. Because ideally, they'd like a bit more time to build Golovkin up - seeing as though he's a nobody in the States. That's without mentioning the fact that, because they seem to have a soft-spot for him, it would make very little sense for them to then sacrifice him against a much bigger and better opponent in Ward. So nah, I think HBO have very little intentions of matching them. Their careers will be kept apart, and for good reasons too. They'll soon be two divisions apart. I can see Golovkin going back down to 160 and staying there for a while.

I've thought they were for the aforementioned reason that Ward was pushed so hard as a possible opponent during the Proksa fight. It should be noted though that Golovkin's fight against Oosthiuzen, Rodriguez, or whoever is NOT going to take place at the full 168 limit.
Well it makes little sense for DiBella to sacrifice Oosthuizen to 1 of the biggest punchers around, but money dictates terms and HBO have plenty. I just think that if Golovkin takes out Oosthuizen in style then naturally enough the question would be put to Ward should he win a week later " Would you be willing to fight Gennady Golovkin " ? Golovkin's fight will still be fresh in peoples minds.
