If that's true than that just proves that conditioning coaches should stick to just that conditioning !

:huh There have always been weights for strengthening the neck it's called a head harness. Seen one in every boxing gym from Philly to Mexico. And most were old school gyms.

yep ! punching resistance is something that you're born with it , just like punching power. Most of pro fighters train their neck muscles since they were amateurs but only a few of them have good punching resistance. Its all about genes.

p.s although Bute hasn't a solid chin , he stays better in other physical sector

James Toney built up his neck and never seemed to be truly hurt in a fight all the way up to heavyweight. I think there is some truth to having a strong neck to produce a strong chin. Holyfield and Mike Tyson had strong necks as well and could tell a punch.

Not entirely. You're born with a capacity but if you don't train you wont be punch resistant for long. James Toney and Evander Holyfield are born with naturally high pain tolerance for example but they still had to build up their neck muscles to take punches at heavyweight as neither were natural heavyweights. So punch resistance itself isn't genetic but the capacity to build up to have punch resistance is.

If Khan never trained his neck he never maxed out his genetic capacity.

I wont stop the brain from slamming it will just slam in a different way.

Holyfield explained that when he got hit with a hard punch it was like a rubber band where his vision vibrated. I got knocked out once in my life and it wasn't a black it, it was completely disoriented and distorted vision where colors were all weird and it vibrated like a rubber band similar to what Holyfield described.

That said I was just a kid and I'm not a professional boxer. I do think that there are different kinds of concussions and the most severe seem to be whiplash effects where the neck shakes the brain in the skull so it does seem to be logical that less of that will mean less damage.

I think Virgil Hunter is just there for the pay check cross his fingers and hope khan doesn't get punched on his glass mandible and at least gets this victory impressively.

Roach's Parkinson's is probably to blame for this oversight.
