who is the most complete fighter you have seen?

Marvin Hagler and Roberto Duran.

There's more film of Robinson than most of the guys you just named, if not all.

Good post here. SRL also had the intangibles and the marketability to go along with his boxing abilities. He had no weakness.

Another fighter I like a lot is Salvador Sanchez. As good offensively as defensively. Toughness, Poise, Stamina, Versatility, Patience , Great chin and good enough power and footwork to make him good in any situation. One of the true 15 rounds specialists. :good

However, the best fighter ever is Sugar Ray Robinson at 147. His arsenal of power punches could overwelm most of his opponents back in those days. Pure dynamite in his fists. His lesser version at 175, Ezzard Charles isnt' bad either. He did good at HW too.

Roberto Duran during his Lightweight reing must be considered too. The way he controlled his agressiveness was unparralled.

 

A couple not mentioned much:

Ali pre-exile. Not to take anything away from Roy Jones, but Ali was right up there with him and he was a heavyweight. The other night I watched the Clevland Williams fight, and the Brian London fight. He knocked Williams down with a RH when Ali was backing backing up @ consideralbe speed, very impressive. Watch the speed when he knocks out London, He lands about 12 punches in about 2 1/2 seconds. I watched some Jones fights too just as a comparison and the speed of Ali was right up there with Jones.


Michael Spinks @ LHW often goes under the radar. He was pretty darn complete.

 

Johnny Tapia, too bad his mental side was not on par with his boxing skills. Not the most complete ever by any stretch but I thought he deserved to be mentioned.

Marvin Hagler could perform anything to a high standard, or at least use more techniques and possess more attributes than anyone else I know, but I will say Roberto Duran here. He was an all-time great counter puncher, body puncher, combination puncher, he was one of the most intelligent, had one of the best defences... He just reached levels in several categories that Marvin Hagler didn't.

Then again, you have Ray Robinson and more interestingly, Ezzard Charles. You could say Benny Leonard, too. Of the lesser greats, Wilfredo Gomez rivalled Duran the closest for all-round ability, but then that may have been the product of average opposition.

he ticks practically all the boxes really.
