Must be weird being an active heavyweight fighter training the best active heavyweight fighter.

    Fair play to Banks though.

    Pretty much.

Plus, Wlad said that at this point he only really talked strategy with Manny. Anyone can hold a pair of mitts. Manny's strategic mind will be missed, however; but then again, after years of being together, I'm sure Wlad has gleaned some of his expertise on how to fight certain kinds of opponents.

    Looking forward to Saturday. :bbb

I don't like it, to be honest. I am in no place to question Wlad... but I just don't believe that having a trainer who is an active fighter... in the same division.... who is also preparing for a fight is a very smart thing.

If trainers don't make a difference... then why have any in the first place? I am sure that Wlad knows a ton at this point of his career... has learned a ton from Manny, and I'm sure that he can beat any other fighter out there without a proper trainer. However, that doesn't mean that Wlad will be at his best. I think that you need to have a trainer who is 100% focused on you and your fight, giving you that insight from their perspective, keeping you in line (even if you are disciplined already)... and being that voice that you come back to in between rounds that can give you all of the info seen from a trainer's perspective watching the fight from the outside.

I think this would have been a great time for Wlad to go seek even more knowledge from another top trainer. It doesn't mean that he would have to change his style... but that he could possibly pick up some new tricks and add even more to his arsenal.

That said... I'm sure Banks will be fine. I am sure that he has also learned a lot from Steward, and is probably the most comfortable move for Wlad, at least for this fight. Going forward, I think that Banks needs to retire from boxing and focus on Wlad if this goes on beyond this next fight.

Wlad's a finished product. He doesn't need much. The most important thing a trainer can do for Wlad at this point is to be a strong figure in the corner on fight night. I think Banks can manage that (as long as Vitali respects Banks and doesn't drown him out ;)).

I know this is said a lot but I have to disagree just based on personal experience..... theres a huge difference between a good mitt man and an average one, let alone a bad one.

wlad may not be a staple of 'the gatti list' but he's intelligent. he would not have chosen banks if the guy was not worthy of taking manny's place. banks has been a regular in wlad training camps, in addition to having absorbed a surplus of manny's invaluable knowledge. good choice by wlad.

    No problem.

I have character and Wladimir too.

He honors Emanuel Steward who was a very close friend. Very close and some people should show respect for this friendship.

He should go back Sdunek. But keep up Stewards fight style.

This is not possible and Wlad will not go back to this so called DDR-Trainer with good reasons.
