Honestly, hearing the constant american excuse about "pros competing as amateurs" probably just explains why USA sucks at it.

But it's true I'm not saying american boxers aren't "pros" because nowadays probably every olympic athelte is a pro but communistic countries are taking it to a new level. But yeah I also believe the level of amateur boxing in the US is getting worse, I believe Freddie Roach said something along those lines in his tv show

Those ages are the time amateurs turn professional.

Those amateurs didn't win any gold medals though.

They don't dominate and they haven't for a while. They are even level with the English, Irish etc. I think it's clear that the Ukrainians have been the dominant force in amateur boxing in recent times. Their top guys are competing in WSB until mid 2013 then they'll be turning pro.

Because the only way for Cubans to get respect in their country is in the amateurs, they have to abandon their country to fight in the pros.

Central Asia is getting pretty close but I agree that Cuba created the blueprint.

The Soviet Union created the blueprint, they schooled the Cubans on how to fight in the amateurs back in the day.

Cuba has always been the best boxing Team at the Olympics, World amateur Championships, Goodwill Games, World Cups and PanAm Games. It's just for the past 2 Olympics that their level has dropped a bit. Cuba was the absolute ruler in Olympic boxing from the mid 80's to early 2000's, it's a fact. ;)

I though "dominate amateur boxing" was the topic that we were discussing.
