Except.... it has nothing to do with 3 years from now.

Its not about who will be greater, its about who boxing fans respect more right now. So the future doesnt mean anything in this thread.

We would be paying that already if he had fought and decisively beat Vanes or Lara already and not 100 year old Shane Mosley or JWW Josesito.

Mares has a much stronger resume. I think Canelo would actually like tougher fights than he's given, though.

true enough. and i agree with you. but at this point in the game abner's resume is a lot more respectable than canelo's. however canelo does have more potential as a fighter and superstar than does mares.

I think Canelo has potential because he is within reach of fighting some of the biggest names on the pound for pound list - Mayweather, Cotto, and Martinez. Even if Canelo fights only one of this three and wins decisively, it will over shadow anything Mares can do. However, today, Mares definetely deserves more respect.

Canelo easily! Canelo has beaten every threat at JrWW. If Canelo fights Lucas and Garcia on his next fights, Canelo sure will be the ATG at JrWW!

I first watched Mares coming just after his career treating eye injury and I knew that he was a special fighter. He has showed strength in front of adversity, diversity inside of the ring and constant desire to challenge himself. I think that Moreno might be too much for him but that won't degrade him as a warrior. He will give any fighter hard time Donaire included. I've started watching Canelo pretty early and he never impressed me to be honest. I have to see him face true adversity before I can make my mind on him
