I was thinking this earlier. No disrespect to Tim Witherspoon, very good fighter, but he was ****ing all over the shop when asked even who was coming through in his own country! Said something about "needing to go and find these guys", just complete bollocks. The Maloney comment is ****ing badly thought out in the circumstances, being polite. He was miserable all show and actually annoyed me.
when's that?? tv 'pundits' say what they are paid to say. sadly they sometimes also say it when they do their paper columns too because they forget to switch character. glorified PR men long live the articulate, intelligent, knowledgeable fan that can be bothered to try and keep the truth breathing
I thought Jon Thaxton was pretty good when he did a bit of punditry for ITV but then again he's a more recent boxer. The majority of ex-boxer pundits are moaning old *******s who retired 20+ years ago. Carl Froch wasn't bad either the odd time he did it.
The problem is that they work for TV channels who have a product to sell. There's no way Sky will let the pundits slate his last, godawful opponent because then the tools that buy for the football but watch the boxing might start to question things. Same with BoxNation, etc. They want to sell their product, so there is no way they will "tell it like it is" (also code for "tell it like I think it is") if it means the product won't sell. The era of impartiality died when Rupert Murdoch took over the world's approach to media. You are now a consumer, not a person with views and opinions. Rupert will tell you what he wants you to know, think and do. Anything that splits that beautiful idyll will not be allowed.
Basically.. -Wlad is boring, and not a great champion because he couldn't finish his dinner last night. That Price is two fights away from beating him (inc Skelton). -Manny Steward only taught him the right hand, there was no ten bells and that's probably because Wlad doesn't care. He's probably chuffed he doesn't have to pay the 10% trainer fee to Manny anymore. Witherspoon and him felt Manny only taught the basics. ''Big Right Hand'' and ''1'2 then grab''. Man there was so much bollocks being spouted i've forgotten all of it but that was the jist of ot. Oh and Chazz Witherspoon would give Wlad hell supposedly.. If well prepared
Very good points raised above- I can remember Nigel Benn (who would make an excellent pundit IMO) criticising Audley Harrison on the BBC for not being active enough and being never seen again on the channel. Pundits need to have the freedom to say what they like and not what the broadcaster wants them to say.
Bunce is never impartial, and even if he was he doesn't know anything about boxing anyway. His opinions are ****ing ridiculous sometimes, I don't know how he's even made a living out of writing and talking about boxing.
In your opinion then,do you think Bunces disgraceful cheerleading performance last night was good punditry fella? His comments because it was the Klits were a disgrace once again, when if that was a British fighter in there he would have cum in his huge Y fronts. When you see the names you mention,Dixon and Mee on Sky,you know you will usually get a level headed and honest opinion which is very refreshing in comparison.Must admit to liking Paul Smith and also Rob Macracken talking but another one that speaks absolute shite is Richie Woodhall.Pound for pound he must be up there with the best **** talkers of all time.
SPB,did I hear him imply that K2 are letting guys build up records so they can be lambs to the slaughter,as if they were in om it?
Nah, he said that was whats happening from the challengers point of view and, to be fair, thats what IS happening. Fighters are building records to get a title shot they know they'll lose rather than building careers.
Barry McGuigan, Johnny Nelson, Steve Bunce, are all great pundits. These guys have passion and personality. And Glenn Mccory is a mong, but he is Glenn Mccory. He was there when i stayed up all night to watch...."Tyson vs Holyfield I Judgement Night Bill", he was there when i was growing up, being abit of a mong but passionate and emotional about his boxing. Listen please stop wanking over Jamie Moore..? What's the big deal with him. I may not be the biggest Paul Smith fan, but he is a by far better pundit than Jamie Moore. Allot of people him seem to be apathetic towards Jamie Moore, i bet afew people here want him to be knighted. And i don't even know who the other guys are who you mentioned.
I think it was what Gaz said, I kinda drifted off in the end plus was in shock at the 10% comment :good.
