Has the heavyweight division ever sucked as much as today?

Oh, I know he's not small but I think he'd struggle to get much going against Wlad regardless. Firm might be being a bit too generous, although admittedly he wouldn't need much fine tuning to be in very good shape. I love how he's been brought up too. Skelton is a Pulev left over as it is, shows how much Price has to learn at this stage compared to him.

Nowadays you have to match Wlad in some areas IMO. I think he'd batter Pulev and Povetkin(smaller) and Price and Fury have more development needed yet but can at least outdo Wlad in size and offer more than Wach did.

Except durability

Wilder just isn't very good IMO. Can't see him ever getting anywhere near top 10 level, unless Wlad fights him when he's 40-0 with no bracket wins.

The number 2 and 3 he's are haye and vitali, they'd crack the top ten contender list of any era

 

I think Pulev could beat Povetkin, just as Sasha appears to be putting in little effort, hence why Huck was able to make it competitive with him when Povetkin could've dealt with him with little effort IMO. I still think Chambers could beat Povetkin in a rematch.

I think Dempsey's era was pretty weak, or at least his title reign was.. Six title defenses in seven years, and a more or less abscent champion who sat on the belt for three of those seven years. Guys like Billy Miske, Brennan, Carpentier and Firpo getting title shots and men like Wills getting benched. Sorry, but I'd rather see an active champion who constantly faces new talent ( the way that Wlad does ) as opposed to what was going on in the 1920's.

I think Pulev might be a lot better than we think. Thing is, he's got no flash. He's pretty strong. Pretty fast. Good stamina, decent power. Jack of all trades, master of none. I will say that his defense, thus far, is excellent. I'm very impressed by him and I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years, he's the #2 when Vitali has retired and Haye is out of the picture (beaten by Wlad again or by Pulev, or retired). Currently I'd pick him to beat anyone besides Wlad - including a slowing down Vitali Klitschko.

I am a bit disappointed, though. Five years ago, we had Povetkin beating Byrd and Donald in his 12th/13th pro fight, convincingly so. Since that injury in late 2007 he's never been the same and lacked focus. Boytsov looked promising since 2004 but still hasn't really stepped up to the plate. Odlanier Solis is incredibly talented but pissed (or ate) it all away and has no passion for boxing. So, I hope the Hungarian Pulev can prove me wrong and be the next era's Holyfield: perhaps not fascination, but damn good nevertheless.
