Do you think the heavyweight contenders in this era are good?

If we had good contenders now, guys like Briggs, Rahman and even Holyfield would not be given second, third and fourth go rounds.

Been watching boxing since the EARLY 80's and I have seen all you can from the past eras..

THIS ERA IS GARBAGE!!!

 

It's pretty poor.

The Klitschko's have been head and shoulders above the competition and have maintained a standard at least, but if you look at the contenders, they have been largely very poor.

There is just no getting around it. Even the mostly disinterested, poorly conditioned heavyweights of the 80's like Page, Witherspoon and Thomas were skillful fighters, who on their day could be trouble for anyone. They had great amateur pedigrees and could fight.

A mostly forgotten heavyweight like Tyrell Biggs would have people frothing at the mouth today, compared to the likes of Thompson, Chisora, Wach etc.

It's not a knock on the Klitschko's, but it's a knock on this era as a whole.

 

Povetkin, Adamek, Chambers, Haye, Vitali, these guys would all be rated contenders in most eras. Wlad himself is a worthy champion who I'd favour over most past champions.

The division is fine talent wise, it's just that the contenders don't seem to be fighting each other.

There are 3 elite HW's right now in the World, the Klits and Haye and none are proper ATG's like Lewis, they aren't on that level.

No one else right now is anything other than decent (although hopefully some of the promising ones come through)

As for Wach, he is no average title challenger, he'd be nothing in past era's, that is an insult to past average title holders to call him an average title holder.

 

better than in Larry Holmes era at least

 

I remember the 70's 80's 90's and 00's. This era is only indifferent for US based fighters. The US scene is almost identical to the 80's before Tyson. It lacks a real US presence.

 

To skew the results. This is a thread for haters, and it's best ignored as such. Let the Brittards weep bitterly.

 

Deluded people don't want to hear this they prefer the eras with such greats as Vaughn Bean, Axel Schulz, Mavrovic, grandad Foreman, Botha, Morrison and Michael Grant and Phil Jackson, oh and not to mention Akinwande.
