    SHO>HBO in the 90's
Looks like in the 2010's Sho bout to regain the crown.

    Main event yes, undercard no!

Lately Showtime is putting up good fights and last night was an example.

only on paper. PDL Gonzo fizzled, each undercard ended up with only 1 very good fight

And what happened on the Top Rank undercard besides Rigondeaux easily beating Marroquin, Macklin ending glass JAWlcine in a round and Roman Gonzalez and Miguel Beltran Jr fighting in what had to be the sloppiest display of "prizefighting" I've seen all year.

Beltran Gonzalez was a real good fight, you can't complain about sloppiness when you got Maidana Soto Karass as your best fight

It doesn't even matter. I watched both. I started with HBO. Thankfully after the Lara fight, the Mares fight started. I switched over to watch it immediately. I hate it when fans complain when big fights don't turn out the way they expect. Do all dates with pretty girls end up in spectacular fashion? Are all parties fun and exciting? Of course not. You can't expect everything to turn out perfectly. Be happy that we at least got to see two young, strong competitors from TR and GBP go at it. Overall it was a good night for boxing fans. Not perfect. But still good.

pretty much this. i will be tuning into alot more showtime events from now on

personally whats killing HBO for me is the absurd commentary (thats why i enjoy watching fights at a bar or pub)

the showtime commentators are also much better than the ones in Hbo, at least Bernstein and Tarver (used to) tell it like it is instead of Lampley and Merchant talking up the HBo fighter all the time

Larry is not a company man at all. Lampley no doubt, but compare Gus Johnson lol. i miss Gus though. Tompkins is excellent

Larry's close-minded negativity almost makes him worse than a run-of-the-mill company man. Lampley can annoy with his exuberance but at least he doesn't poison entire broadcasts like Larry.

I rarely get that from Larry, usually he calls it as it is. Examples?

Made the Klitschko-Haye fight far harder to sit through than it should have been since he was whining about Haye from the first minute on. Likewise, he complained throughout Martinez-Macklin that Martinez doesn't fight enough like Roy Jones even though he hated on Jones constantly. His "tribute" to Hopkins nevertheless featured qualifications on all of Hopkins' biggest wins and emphasizing of all his losses. Anyone who isn't a face-forward brawler or who dares criticize those who are seems to be a target of his unending ire these days.

Eh, he was skeptical of Haye and fully vindicated. Martinez wasn't looking p4p vs Macklin. Agree he's harsh on Hopkins, he's often bad tv though.

Showtime was much better then HBO, and not just in fights but in everything. Production, announcing (besides roy jones).... just... everything.
