Too bad for the Klitschko's that the HW division really lacks any talent based on which they can be measured against the past greats.
No heavyweight from the shitchko era is a future ATG or even HOFer, and thats not including the shot boxers from the 90s that they beat
not many fighters better than Golota really. You guys are mentioning Razor and Golota, two of the top non-champions in the division's history. Why not mention Cobb and Holmes when talking about Wlad? Who wins, Cobb or Wach? I say Wach, at least he'll try and punch back when outclassed.
Mercer's best years were in the early 90's and even back than Tommy Morrison almost beat him the **** in.
I think Byrd has the biggest claim of being an elite HW. He had a good skill set and would have been able to box against HWs, he has some pretty bad losses though. Byrd is a "very good" fighter, is he elite? Borderline.. Is he a HOF? Borderline. Is he a "great" fighter? No
He still beat Corrie Sanders, who assraped prime Wlad nearly ending his career and nearly sparked Vitali (who was saved by the bell) in the opening round Golota's DQ's losses to Bowe > anything Wlad has ever done Byrd was not a naturalHW and still beat Vitali who ducked him for the remainder of his career
Of course he has, though it depends on how finicky you want to be with the term "elite". I'd say that Byrd, Haye, Ibragimov, Chagaev, Peter were all elite at the time Wlad fought them (Peter not so much the second time round). Chags are Brags were undefeated beltholders with extensive and successful amateur careers and a number of decent wins on their resumes as pros (Valuev, Ruiz, Holyfield, Briggs etc), Byrd was number one contender when Wlad fought him in 2006, Haye was number three and WBA beltholder, Chambers was hovering around the upper echelons of the top ten after his wins over Peter and Dimitrenko (themselves top ten fighters at the time) and had previously given Povetkin his hardest and closest fight. Calvin Brock was a pretty big name at the time Wlad fought him as well, and undefeated with a solid though not spectacular resume.
If Golota would fight Sanders, Sanders would KO him with a straight left in the first 3. If not Golota would DQ himself.
lol, he just looked in boxrec he fought a different Sanders, but noobs who don't watch boxing have no idea.
