    Hi everyone,
So I joined my universities boxing team about 4 months ago and we have been learning all the basics. We have been sparring for a while now and I feel like I dont do a very good job. It is hard for me to find opening so I get hit a lot and mostly throw jabs and suck at throwing combos. Could it be that I overthink stuff? And in terms of me getting hit, how am I supposed to be moving while I am toe to toe with my opponent? Thanks.

Don't think react. Don't wait for an opening make one force your way in slipping punches if you can and go to the body which will help later. Sometimes throw a lead right hand to catch them off guard (but do this VERY rarely).

What do you mean by force my way into slipping punches? I have a good coach, but I feel like he puts more attention to the guys who are already good. Are there boxing video guides online I can get/buy? I really want to improve myself.

Basically what mean is try to duck under their punches while going forward.
The best way to learn boxing is to have someone else teach you If you can't get coach to notice you yet then try asking some of the guys that are better than you to help. :good

yup, coaches generally focus on those better boxers. You just got to practise more and more, more and more. Youtube is a great source for boxing. For example [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GlHEoZVWo8[/ame] (myboxingcoach) has a good number of boxing videos which will teach you technique.

but practise is mainly the key... you got to dedicate immense amounts of time to training and you'll see results.
