On the scene. Now before the ducking accusations start, I should say that if this was a $500k offer for a fight at 165, then it's not particularly surprising since Rodriguez is extremely unlikely to be able to make that weight. It is interesting to note that HBO is willing to throw around that much money on Golovkin, at least if this is true.
Didn't Edwin just fight at 168? If it's the same guy that just fought El Monster or whatever that guy's name was, then he needs to just take the money, accept his role in the boxing heiarchy and accept the ass whippin of a lifetime.
Yes but the talk is Golovkin was looking to take on him or Oosthuizen at a catchweight, not the full 168. Given that Rodriguez was 186 last time in the ring, I don't think he can boil down much past the limit.
I feel bad for GGG the dude is being froze out of alot of good fights that would potentially be great showcases for him. (I wonder how much longer HBO will wait?)
HBO might just have to bite the bullet on Oosthuizen. I don't really see why they turned it down in the first place, although after this weekend Oosthuizen appears unlikely to make a catchweight too.
Choosing 2 SMW when there are more qualified JMW or MW shows how he is being avoided by fighters of his stature. Not even a title shot helps. Is he really that good? I don't remember Kirkland or Angulo being avoided like this.
I think this was the origin of the rumour: http://www.telegram.com/article/20121104/COLUMN36/111049763/0 Sanchez said he had read it on the internet.
