If I were facing such an opponent, I'd just bang away at that bicep.
Forget the head, just cripple that left arm, and score lots of easy points while doing it.

If you get the distance right, so that you are JUST reaching that arm, then your opponent can't touch you without dangerously leaning forward.

By round 6-7, you'd be facing a 1-armed fighter, and be way ahead on the cards.

You are far from the first one to "say" you would do that. The reality is discovered in the ring.

See Gatti, Corrales, etc. on how that worked out. :yep

I can think of three advantages:

    1) Defense. You'll notice the other fighter more often than not hits the extended forearm before his punch gets any momentum. Broner was using that very efffectively.

    2) Creates space. The slight push off creates more space for a cleaner punch.

    3) It could also be slightly dirty. The forearm is dense and with the elbow right there it's not too difficult to use it to your offensive advantage even when you don't intend to. People have accused floyd of using elbows.

Not everyone has the bone crushing power of Marciano to make that effective while being wary of counter punches.

this thread is full of dumb asses that need to be shot asap.the forearm or elbow is used as well to block/parry punches from the philly shell defense. sometimes it gets in a fighters face but when the ref sees it will tell them to stop it if it becomes a problem. yall act like mayweather and broner or ****ing anderson silva droping bows on people. stop it ok, just cut it the **** out PLEASE!!

oh and know one created room or ****ed someone up more with the elbow the tito triniadad.

Can be dirty or clean tactic within the style with the fighter determining that. As said Toney fought clean within the shell while Mayweather is dirty as hell elbow striking opponents and pulling their necks down. Just part of the sport. If people want it to be "squeky clean" get it banned but better yet don't watch it.

Some outboxers like Holmes would hold their hand out and move their opponent which is a foul too for instance. Just depends on who does a certain style and how they apply their tactics to it. Also who refs the fights and if they kiss up. Some people will always foul to get their way just part of any sport with physical contact really. Cornerbacks in the NFL may hold the receiver slowing them down. A defensive perimeter player in the NBA would hold their opposing scoring pg/sg jersey. I could go on.

It's a tool, and like most roughhousing, I don't have a problem with it unless it becomes excessive or exaggerated. At the end of the day, it's a fight.

He also never complained to the ref or over exaggerated a foul and he got fouled a lot. Holyfield butted the **** out of him, Jirov did a mini Golota on his nuts and Rahman was bending him over backwards on the ropes with his elbow in his neck, rabbit punching, holding and hitting and best the **** out of his kidneys and never once does he even glance at the ref or make any motion complaining.
