--- This was the most important heavyweight fight in 2005. It was postponed four times before Vitali retired coz of a knee injury (months before the Kiev elections). Both were in their prime. Rahman was considered a threat and many said that Vitali was ducking him. Who wins?
Vitali would stop him faster than Potvetkin did last month and worse than Wlad did 2 yrs later. As for the delays..... had to be misdiagnosed L5/S1 protrusion. He had a bad lower back. Something almost any chiropractor could have taken care of inside 6 months. That injury causes pain in the hamstrings, thighs, and sometimes even tingling in the knee. Originally they postponed it b/c they thought it was a hammy pull. Then they thought it was his knee. Finally, after almost a yr, they thought he had suffered another injury to the back. All along it was likely his back, and his body must have naturally reduced the protrusion with rest and restraint from heavy lifting.:think Either that, or he went to a chiropractor
Nobody said that Vitali was ducking Rahman. Rahman was never a good opponent, and only got a name because of Lewis' terrible chin. Watch the Wlad fight with Rahman to see what the result would be.
Iron fist easy win, don't know where the myth of Rahman ever being any good came from, he has been a fat mess most of his career.
I truly believed Vitali in 2005 that the injury was true. But than he came back in 2008 and know he can fight on. If his body was so "shot" in 2005, this could have never happen. Never thought Vitali would act so. In 2005 the Klitschkos had no on TV contract, Don King was against them and after Wlad becomes Champ again with an on TV contact, all was fine, big bro could continue boxing. What miracle. Wlad fought his way back with the help of Emanuel Steward. Wlad shows the character of a Champ at this time. I lost my respect for Vitali. The fight against Rahman was postponed (when I remembered it right 7 times). Vitali wants to fight Calvin Brock or another opponent. But the WBC forces him to fight Rahman and he retired.
Did anyone thinking that Rahman would have beat Vitali actually watch Rahman vs Barrett or Maskaev during that time frame?
Stop bitching Jisi... Every version of Vitali beats every version of Rahman. Rahman never was A+ material. When Lewis was KOd by Rahman it was because of Lewis´ arrogance and not because of Rahmans skills.
No, actually Vitali wanted to fight Maskaev. Also, Vitali wanted to do this because he was ready, and Rahman was already fighting Barrett. He simply didn't want to wait around. Vitali clearly was injured. So much so that he needed to take that time off just for his body to recover. He still clearly isn't what he was. He doesn't move very well... he clearly has problems with his legs and back. Maskaev ended up knocking Rahman out... again... anyways. Vitali vs Maskaev was the fight that fans wanted to see at the time. Maskaev was talking big in the media about beating Vitali in the Ams, and it sparked a lot of interest.
