does commentary influence your take on a fight?

i recently watched ali norton III twice but with two different sets of commentators (dont recall names) and one set was completely pro ali and had me thinking he just scraped the win. The next time i watched with a completely different set of commentators who were more objective and i had norton winning comfortably?
anyone else agree commentary can influence your scoring ?

I think it can be a factor, yes.

Because I tend to watch boxing in company it doesn't really affect me, I feel. To many people around to cry "bull****!". But it is the case the commentary is a factor, yeah.

I definately think it does effect some people. On the last two fights involving the Marquez brothers, Rafael and Juan Manuel have definately had the commentators putting an extra emphasis on their good work. Especially Vasquez-Marquez. I thought it was fairly clear Vazquez was on the ascendency after six rounds but the commentators were desperate to laud every combo Marquez threw and give the impression that they didn't know what was going to happen next when it was pretty obvious by the tenth that Marquez was flagging badly.

a more recent case was when i watched cotto mosley. the commentators were so far up cottos arse they'd have you believe he dominated but i thought mosley did enough to get a draw

It doesn't influence me, but I think it influences the judges.

Yeah - I have to agree - it's mainly Jim "****ing" Lampley, who's the HBO Boxing "Dick Rider".

The fight that always comes to mind is the first Mosley/DLH fight. They had DLH winning the fight the whole way and was outraged when the decision was read. What really got me was that both were HBO Fighters - but DLH is the Cashcow.

Every since then - I try to block out the commentators and score my own fights.

Are you serious - the Judges don't hear the commentators during the fights :deal

Welcome to ESB - from Brick City - my place of birth. I'm from EO.

I'm not so sure that the judges can hear the commentators. I'm not sure, but they don't they sit on the other side of the ring.

When I was "newer" to boxing it certainly did affect me. Nowadays I tend to laugh at them and/or swear profusely at them more than anything else

Not at all, I usually catch myself yelling "that was bull****" in disagreement with some of what the commentators say.

Especially everytime Harold ledderman shows us his score-cards:patsch

I was happy with the result, but I think you've picked a decent example for commentary bias.

The commentators - and all 3 Judges sit on different side of the Square Circle.

4 side for all 4 - so with the crowd screaming and them paying attention to the fight - there's no way they can hear the commentators.

It can be, especially if the commentators are biased. I have seen some fights where its clear Lampley for example is is favoring some fighter by making him look much better than he really is (so many times he's said these big punches landed that missed by a mile). Sometimes its easy to go along with it because he's convincing, but that's how it is.

Think thats a fair comment. When trying to get into the sport I think you buy into what they say with a sort of 'they know best attitude'. Probably the case for the average fan.

But now tend to scratch my head and say 'are they watching the same fight as me?'.

This tends to happen with judges too...

I often mute the commentary i think they can really be negative, more so British commentators about British fighters
