Point with that at least he was in shape for those fights in the UK and would've done better than the 2002 version where he was blatantly out of shape and unfit.

Lewis took some hard hits but was visibly hurt ... he let his hands go against Mercer quite a bit and exchanged with him, a tactic that will get him KOed against Mike. It was a 10 rounder too and Mercer looked strong even at the end.

Bert Cooper had Holyfield hurt and Bowe beat him when Holyfield was a champion. 89 Tyson still had some notable victories over Bruno and Carl Williams ... the Tyson that beat Bruno in 89 beats any version of Holyfield.

there is no way lewis would let his hands go against a puncher like tyson lewis was a really smart and tactical fighter as he showed that during the vitali fight losing the 1st 3 rounds and then winning the rest i can see your point with bert cooper as i said 89 tyson vs holyfield would have made a great slugfest but holyfield isnt ruddock he would have worn him out and either stopped him late or win a close decision

To be fair, Lewis's fight against Butler was hardly arranged as a super-fight between top heavyweight. Butler was an easyish opponent for Lewis to fight as he rebuilt his career after loosing to McCall. No one ever expected Bulter to be any kind of threat to Lewis and, to my knowledge, no one has ever attempted to pass Butler off as anything special before, during or after the fight with Lewis.

His real prime might have been at the time of D'Mato's death although the brains kept it alive by having the monster fight every month.

I think Tillis and Green laid the blueprint on to how to fight this guy.
One only has to look at the Tillis fight to have a glimpse into the future being Douglas.


The Tyson who fought Berbick would have went right thru Lewis, because Lewis would have fought back and not been defensive like Smith, Tucker, ect.

 

Tyson in his prime likely knocks Lewis out & if he didn`t he`d win a clear UD, too fast & hard to hit at his best for the much slower Lewis & had the sort of power in either hand to make Lewis freeze like a rabbit in the headlights as soon as one lands cleanly.

Body-punching: Mike's ferocious body-punching is a lost art amongst Heavyweights today. Most Heavyweight neglect going to the body in fear of being countered. Tyson not only had accurate body-punches but fast and in quick succession. Add that to a high work rate and you have a complete skill set.

Finishing: Tyson is one of the greatest finishers of all time, when he had his man hurt his ability to KO or finish his opponent is the best bar none. Catches Plinkton Thomas with a uppercut and finishes him with a 4 punch combination. Notice the accuracy of his punches; right on the chin of Thomas.

Distance: Tyson in prime his ability to close distance was sublime, not matter how the opponent he had underrated footwork in order to close the distance and get past a jab to intermediate range where he was most devastating. Also includes Body-punching.

 

Lewis used to beat Tyson back in mthe 80's in Cus Dmatos gym.

Any and every version of Lennox beats Tyson.

 

Like he "struggled" with Larry Holmes, who had the best jab ever? Or Tyrell Biggs who worked exclusively behind the jab? How about Tony Tucker who had an excellent jab, he was actually being out jabbed by Tyson when he decided to use it?

prime Lewis couldn't even keep Tyson out when they actually did fight, his jab would be nothing to Tyson who would easily move in and give him angle he's never seen before and smash his jaw. He couldn't even beat Mike's sparring partner.

Lewis was great for Tyson his style his cautiousness, i only think Mike can win if he's in the best shape and can just keep going inside the WHOLE fight NON STOP, other than that Lewis would win this fight.
