HBO loves him so we'll see him again, and thats not a bad thing since he's usually in good fights. There's so many good fights for him-rematches with Ortiz and Guerrero, Maidana(I really like this fight), Josesito Lopez, Abregu, etc. He's clearly not an elite fighter but he's solid and he makes for good fights. I'm not sure he'll get those big paydays without winning atleast one meaningful fight but he'll be on tv again.
I think his best days are behind him. He can still win a championship and as long as he stays away from the best of the best can hold on to it for a few fights. I see Berto the same way I see boxers like Cotto and Pavlik. Their not great boxers, but they are pretty good at what they can do. They acomplish more than their skills should let them. This being said. A rematch with Ortiz makes a lot of sense. For both Berto and Ortiz. A win for either puts the winner back on the fast track.
i got a feeling hbo might try feeding him to thurman. if i was berto i would chase a guererro rematch. i see that fight going either way
Would Haymon sacrifice one to make another? :think (Good fight tho) +Thurman back @147 would be a good move.
:thumbsup Fair assessment. Berto ought to fire his trainer pronto and seek out someone who can teach him some semblance of footwork. He then should rematch Ortiz.
I don't usually go crazy after a loss in this regard but.... he needs to fire his corner. Seriously, they are bad. Even when he wins. A lot of stuff seems to happen with them that just doesn't make sense i.e. "hey Andre, I was playing Fight Night Round 4 last night and I thought it would be a really good idea if you started trying out the shoulder roll. Now, I know you're deep in you're career now, but I really think you should try this out."
He took a hell of a beating against Guerrero it is hard to reverse that. JuanMa-Salido 2 is a recent example. He will decline physically from a fight like that. Plus Guerrero is too smart for him he will just come with something new small changes that will troll him of his game plan again.
I think a Maidana fight has the potential to be explosive and awesome. Berto would start off fast and win the first few rounds due to his speed... but then Maidana would gradually start coming on until he takes his heart and beats him into submission by the 10th. Great fight.
