Anybody else gain a new respect for Guerrero last night?

He fought like an idiot. He had Berto massively outmatched in the center of the ring but chose to press Berto against the ropes and over the last 4-5 rounds got busted up.

Had 2 10-8 rounds yet only won by 5 points. Fighting like an idiot again is gonna get him ****ed up by the elite welters

Although it was G the way he assaulted Berto after the bell for 10 seconds

 

You're not wrong. That strategy was foolhardy, and when it was clearly not working (with Berto ripping him with those uppercuts despite having his back on the ropes) you'd think it would have been abandoned.

 

i just dont get how he had trouble with sloppy ass aydin. i figured he wasn't a real WW, I was dead wrong. Berto fought like **** but Guerrero bullied him the whole night and ate some monstrous shots, i didn't think Guerreros chin would hold up at WW but man he can take a punch, he's a lot tougher than i thought.

 

Definitely, he exceeded my expectations in terms of durability, tactical intelligence, and relentlessness. Still don't think he can beat the top welters, but he'll make for some exciting fights.

I think the strategy wasn't necessarily inappropriate; Berto discouraging him with right uppercuts and then having Guerrero back up and resort to boxing may have played right into Berto's hands and given him the opportunity to land a big right hand at range. What was lacking was the skill; Guerrero had both hands on either side of Berto instead of around his chin prepared to catch the uppercuts, despite getting hit with so many in consecutive rounds.

 

My respect for both of them was elevated.

I've got to give to Berto for fighting through that beating. Look at his face.

I've had respect for Guerrero for a long time. The guy is a machine. You see him during the ring walk and introductions last night? Scarily focused. Ate everything Berto threw at him like it was nothin'.

The only thing I'd be concerned about is his conditioning at 147. He looked flabby at the weigh in and seemed to gas during the fight. I'm hoping the more he fights at the weight, the better his body will adapt.

Eh, they were huge shots, but he only got shaken by them once. If he knew he can take it, and continue to impose his will, why not? Take away the first two 10-8 rounds and Guerrero still won the fight by a couple points.

Maybe by the end of the fight, Berto had the advantage in the center of the ring, as Guerrero didn't stun Berto past the 7-8th I think it was... Fighting in his chest took steam off Berto's punches, even if those upper cuts were nasty.

it's a valid point but it's hard to say what would've happened as he didn't spend to much time on the outside to judge. Berto might of imposed his hand speed and power. The same tactic worked for Colazo and Ortiz
