This fight is the cherry on the sundae. He wants to fight me so he can then retire. I would like to fight him too, but after I fight him and win the fight, what happens next? These days, yeah, theres a lot of money to be made, but I dont fight for the money. My motivation is to be the best. Like we said, to be the Wayne Gretzky of my sport. So if I fight him, what happens next? It will be over. So yes, I want the fight, but I want to take it when I decide the time is right, not when he wants the fight to happen. On top of that, he weighs 234 pounds; I weigh 188. So theres a big weight difference. Ive fought guys who were bigger Im not scared of him its just that I will take this fight when it makes sense for me. I just came back from an injury, theres money to be made, there are fights in my weight class, other challenges out there, and if I fight him, I will have to gain weight, while he will have to lose weight, and then afterwards, I wont be able to come back to my weight class. First and foremost, I have things to do at 170 pounds. When I am ready and when I want the fight, thats when it will happen.
St. Pierre beats Silva: "Silva is pushing 40! He was past his prime, Silva is still the greatest!!!!!" Silva beats St. Pierre: "St. Pierre, that lay n' pray *****, Silva still GOAT!!!!!"
Read this earlier. He simply doesn't want it and knows he can't handle the division should he move up permanently. It's not a winnable fight for him. I think he is better off saying it outright that 185 or even 180 isn't for him, especially against arguably the greatest fighter to have ever lived.
I back GSP's stance and hope he doesn't take the fight. Everything he has said is correct. Anderson is too big for him, there is unfinished business at welter for him, and he won't be able to return to welter if he bulks up for Silva. Which would leave him in no-man's land - too big for welter, too small for middle. There is no need for this fight to be made. If there's any cross-division superfight to be signed, it should be Silva vs Jones. That one is actually a reasonable match, size-wise. :bart :hat
GSP contradicted himself in that statement in regards to money. But overall he is right. Silva v Bones is a better match up
Actually, Silva would KO Jones. But I do agree with GSP. Dana is really the only one pushing for this fight.
Hasn't Silva stated that he would be willing face GSP at 175 lbs? GSP would not have to drastically alter his body to fight 5 lbs heavier.
Yeah GSP doesn't want the fight, he has never wanted this fight. He has ALWAYS ducked and dived around this question whenever asked by anyone. The fight won't happen imo it's just empty promises from Dana.
He makes a good point. Especially if he's not planning on being a middleweight anytime soon. Whereas Silva beating Bonnar, now that's going to be more tricky avoiding Jones now. Especially if Chael can make a decent fight out of Jones. IMO it's the better fight to be made anyway. Probably not silva first pick though
If memory serves me right he first said 178 then changed it to 175 but still as you said its not to much of an alter to GSP if he goes into a fight 5-8 lbs than usual
