Plenty here have assumed Will would just sit on the IBO belt without any further aspirations, but apparently will is heading to Mexico for the WBC conference to meet with promoters, fighters etc to see if he can't land a title shot in Australia.

Great to see Will's aspirations here. Hopefully another Aus boxer who won't die wondering whether he could have made it to the top:good

The article states there are 19 organisations and 17 weight divisions, and if each organisation had a belt in each division it would mean a total of 323 belts. But as we know, the reality is some organisations have up to 3 belts within the same weight division.

I wonder how many 'world' title belts there are?

Perhaps in excess of 400

Good luck to him. Be good to have a couple of belts, it would thrust him front and centre, in terms of credibitlity and future fights.

I think Will can defeat the current WBC champ Diaz, even more so if the fight was in Australia.

    This was Diaz's last fight.

All the sanctioning bodies stink equally. Ring title is the only one with any credibility and even that's been diminished lately.

The question will be who gets to Gamaliel Diaz & his WBC belt 1st, i wouldn't back Tomlinson on being it.

You wouldn't think so...Magdaleno has got a shite load of T.V time in the last couple of years..they are grooming him for an opportunity exactly like this..Now the title is back in North America, I think it's Top Rank who have him, will be licking their lips.

I'd say that Thompson fellow with the Silver belt would be high on the list also.

On the other hand Mexican champs and their management aren't above searching for opponents on the fringes of the rankings..especially if they come at a good price..in that case Will would have to be willing to get a pretty measly purse but he is getting near that stage of his career where he would have to take these opportunities when they come up.

For reference...Salgado took on a guy ranked around the 14-15 mark in his last defense..in his first defense after bagging the title he took on a similarly ranked opponent.

Spot on WhataRock. Exactly what i was hinting at!!

Diego Magdaleno who is with Top Rank is believed to have a co-feature slot on a HBO BAD date in late February, so Top Rank will want Diaz, plus Diego Magdaleno is number 2 in the WBC rankings at 130 due to him holding the NABF.

Otherwise the Golden Boy/Canelo promoted WBC Silver Champ at 130 Sergio Thompson could get the shot also...they would be the 2 likely candidates for Diaz looking to ca$h out.
