David Price's stock gone right down?

My thoughts on him are pretty much on hold until he fights someone decent.

 

At least he is staying busy I suppose

 

As 2nd round stoppages go, it was one of the worst.

He looked very average against a 45 year old plodder.

We talk about head movement, foot speed and not walking in straight lines to enable boxers to get on the inside....Skelton plodded straight forward at 1mph and got inside easily and was landing punches.

 

Yet a month ago you picked Price to KO your boy Fury :huh

 

This is it really.

I don't think he was all that motivated for the Skelton fight - after the string of early KO wins he wanted a step up.

Skelton is obviously better than Harrison but still... it ought to have been a bigger step up than that.

He's not the first fighter to register a pretty flat display, but at least he won by stoppage pretty early, not extended eight or ten rounds... or worse still, going the distance.

 

Fury beats him imo, he looks pretty limited and uncomfortable on the back foot too. I see a lot of warning signs. Great puncher though.

 

I think where a lot of people have gone wrong both before and after this fight is that this is one thing:

He is still learning and not rushing him is a good thing but he certainly needs to move up a level now.

 

Price was never going to look good having done anything outside of a brutal ko while looking untouchable. Skelton is old and terrible but he gave it a go and made PRice look bad for as long as it lasted.

Anyone who lets Price stand in ring centre and spear them will struggle strategically.

then got pasted to the canvas...honestly im not seeing this expose of david price that everyone else is seeming to, skelton came out, fought ugly, had price a little uncomfortable..for THREE MINUTES...then got knocked out

 

A heavyweight is being criticised for not looking good against Matt Skelton is like criticising a super middleweight for not looking good against Sakio Bika. Yeah, Skelton is a flawed fighter but he always brings a rough, tough fight. It's not even like Price had any major troubles though, and if he did have, he wouldn't have knocked Skelton out in round 2.

This is about as big of an overreaction as I've seen on ESB. My opinion on Price hasn't changed in the slightest.

 

Tall heavyweights always back up in straight lines so they can struggle with pressure fighters
Instead of stayin on the ropes and blockin he needs to get a better clinch to get away from there as quickly as possible
