Lots of people are now saying that Cotto was "shot" etc in his fight last night. It makes me wonder, when was the last time,a guy won a big fight and darn near the majority of this site didnt belittle it in some way or another?? Every time a guy seems to get a good victory,all of a sudden,the guy he fights becomes. Shot Green Weight drained Weight bloated Overhyped to begin with Unmotivated The winner was cheating The winner was Lucky The referees/judges were bought etc etc etc Cant we just say that Trout like a LOT of others just fought a good fight against a good fighter and won fairly?
I am not one that thinks Cotto is shot, yes he isnt what he used to be but coming from someone who actually had money on Cotto winning Ill more then happily admit that Trout won the fight because of the way he fought not because Cotto was missing anything. Ill tell you what though, Trout made a whole bunch of new fans last night
Trout imo won easier than Mayweather did. He didn't present as stationary and hittable of an opponent that Floyd did and fought with a better gameplan. Styles still make fights and discrediting Cotto discredits the huge win Trout had last night. Thought it was a decent fight with lots of skill. Hopefully Cotto does retire so I can make a breakdown of what went wrong for Cotto. Still may do it who knows?
I didn't know enough about Trout as a fighter to make a pick on this fight and Cotto is a favorite of mine. That said, I was not surprised by the outcome just knowing Cotto. I kept telling myself, and not quite believing it, that Cotto must see something in Trout that he thinks he can exploit. Crafty veteran gets you only so far. I firmly believe that had Pac not damaged Margo's eye the Cotto/Marg II fight was heading the same direction as their first fight. I wanted to believe the shoulder surgery had helped. I wanted to believe a stable training situation had helped. I just didn't see it in previous fights or this one. Most here don't know the difference between an excuse and a reason but I think here we are seeing a Cotto that will never be the same as the one we saw in years gone by. Cotto can fight one and still give us some great fights but not against the very top guys. Now, does that mean Trout is a 'top guy'? It will take more than this to show us. It was definitely a very good win for him.
