I just saw a question on ESB about how good was Fernando Vargas. So I ask this comparison. Who was better of these two?

Miguel Cotto has many accomplishments, and Tito Trinidad beat the **** outta Fernando Vargas. His chin was half as good as Miguel Cotto'.

  4. Cotto because he actually reached his potential, he isn't an "if" like Vargas is.

Vargas peak vs Miguel peak..I'd say Vargas was a tad better and beat better fighters at his best.

Cotto wouldn't have been that competitive with a welter Tito or even Quartey for that matter..I know size comes into it but Miguel was at his peak early welter days.

Cotto's career is better though..mainly because he fell off less so when he was beaten and he was able to achieve something even when into his decline.

I don't see Cotto lasting half as long against Trinidad though.

Vargas was better at his best, but Cotto has the longer list of accomplishments and a deeper resume.

Cotto has had a better career and has a better resume... but with that being said, a prime Vargas destroys the 154 pound version of Cotto (though in Cotto's defense, he's undersized and past prime at this weight.)

Cotto more accomplished, Roided Vargas would knock him out, however.

I think Vargas at his best (1999-2002) was better then Cotto at his best (2006-2008 )

I also think a non shot Vargas beats Cotto H2H.

So in terms of who I think was actually the better fighter? Id go with Vargas.

However, I think Cotto has had the better career.

I think based on that, if I was to rank who was 'greater' I would rank Cotto above Vargas.

Yeah, can't possibly see Cotto at 154 beating a prime Vargas. He'd be chopped down and outdone comprehensively by a bigger, stronger, and more physically gifted/able fighter at the weight.
