The whole noise about Martinez being credible foe started when he KOed Williams.
His previous win over Pavlik was very good but Pavlik was on the downside.

Since then I would guess Martinez competition is still better (B/B+ in average) than
GOlvkins in the same time (C+/B in average). Overall if Martinez stops fighting
right now Golovkin would need at least 2 years fighting the best possible opponents
    to equalize the competition gap.

P williams was pretty good at 147 and 154 but look on his resume at 160. Williams was never top 160 fighter. Macklin had already 3 losses coming to martinez fight. Win over barker has the same worth as the win over proksa for golovkin. Win over pavlik was pretty good at the time they fought. Win over chavez looks good too but lets wait untill chavez beats someone decent cause right now he's a star in boxing only because of his father. Martinez has better resume than golovkin but not by much really. If you want to consider him as nr 1 at 160 he should have wins over guys like sturm, pirog (russians were paying really good money for this fight), geale or golovkin.

Golovkin is now the WBA superchamp and HBO wants to show his fights so at 160 he's the best option for martinez next to pirog and geale. Dont think martinez will go up to fight ward and dont think mayweather or manny want to fight martinez at 154.

Yeah I just saw that. So we officially know Golovkin won't actually move up to 168 and won't actually move down to 154. Clearly the most feared man in 3 divisions.

Chavez himself has more legit middles on his resume than Golovkin. Williams would have beaten every other beltholder in the division at the time Martinez fought him. Also, Geale and Sturm both turned down fights with Martinez (even mentioning Sturm here is utterly utterly laughable given his interest in fighting lineal champs prior to Martinez). The fact that you posted a mere one name from Golovkin's resume should tell you all you need to know about even comparing their records at the moment.
