Find some of the posts in this thread so ****ing funny, Jones clearly didnt turn up today and frankly looked uninterested which was understandable since this was a nothing fight compared to what he was expecting. He felt in the Brook fight that he had something to prove and showed up in fantastic physical and mental shape. The Purdy fight would have been a completely different type of fight and something Carson would have most definately turned up for. With the regards to him being overrated, im not sure where that has come from, he's a teak tough, relentless come forward contender, nothing more, nothing less. Providing the motivation is there he will give anyone a good scrap.
Right i was there, First off i had a feeling Jones thought this was lightwork. As he strolled to Michael Jackson's ''I'm Bad'' he nodded confidently or maybe even arrogantly like a man who was relaxed. He came out and pressed the fight and Bryne adopted a back foot counter punching style and it worked beautifully as he won the first two rounds without feeling any major problems and even up close he forced Jones back to push him off. Round 3 was closer, Jones landing to head and body but Bryne again on my card did enough to go 3 up. It was then the 4th when Jones took over and Bryne was looking dog tired he was running on empty and nodding at Jones work. Carson was snapping shots to middrift and head and pacing forwards with mean intent. I posted a status on my facebook saying Jones looked likely to win late via stoppage but somehow in final round when really it looked all Jones, Bryne gained his second wind and produced some fine counters and even turned Jones into corner and let go and that was the round that nicked him the draw IMO. I had it same as IJL a draw.. Bryne was excellent tonight guys, The boy loves the fans the way he posed for pictures and way he spoke after. We should cherish lads like him, Jones is a good guy but i think he's no more then a grinder with a bit of polish.
Jones started slow against Brook but came on strong late and gave him fits in the last, what do you think would have happened if this had been over 12? Fair play to Byrne though, great show by him.
Oh i'd of fancied Jones to stop Byrne, Dean was marked up a fair bit and was pushing his punches even in the 8th he was spent but wanted it so bad and Carson just had no urgency at all. 8 rounds was a wise call, 10 he'd of probably got stopped. Jones though was tired himself but his punches still had snap on them. He starts far,FAR to slow and i looked at his back and he seemed dry so not sure if he does enough of a warm up. He needs a target he can land on, Bryne was smart he slipped and dipped as he came in and stopped him landing. Bryne showed his ability tonight for 3 rounds he looked a very decent operator.
I tell you lot another thing when Jones stepped into the ring he went to Bryne's corner to touch gloves. I think he thought Dean was a soft touch and was showing him props i do get impression with Carson mentally he thinks he's better then what he is. Good guy though, After fight posing for pics with everyone who asked.
That's what I thought I reckon he was a round or two from stopping Byrne but should a bloke who's recently fought an IBF title eliminator be coming from behind against Byrne, strange fighter, you can see why he's dropped 7 decisions in the past.
Yep spot on, Strange fighter there was some signs of class at times but at other times you'd of said he's a domestic contender no more no less. :good
I watched the fight pissy eyed in the pub and Jones clearly won. Sickening result. For those of you saying Jones is terrible, what does that make Brook?
