Anybody notice the 3rd round knockdown was identical to a move from the 1st fight?

Agreed. His footwork was astonishing, he was very fleet footed, and he was closing the distance well when juan decided to move back he'd catch up with him, probabley a big contributing factor to the nasty ko that ended it

Pacquiao was jumping back at an angle. That's why, when the looping right from Marquez landed this time, Manny had no base under him and his neck wasn't braced by his shoulders.

I have been saying for years that Manny has average foot work. So many people confuse his foot speed with footwork. **** was horrible last night.

He was circling and moving great. He looked more explosive and agile, using feints and tricky waste movements and everything. He was lightning with that lead left too. Really impressed by how he anticipated JMM ducking low and accurately finished with the right hand every time, instead of simply missing high and falling in. RJJ was spot on about how Manny was giving JMM problems. It's the best way to confuse a counter-puncher. Glad Roach suggests he's not going to retire.

I don't think you can say he has horrible footwork. Stepping outwards while delivering the left hand, being able to switch and hit from both sides, circling out at the right angle, judging the range and manipulating it frequently with the feet, that all takes practice and experience. Manny lunges a lot, he's no master, but a lot of his tricks depend on how Roach has taught him to move and execute, and I don't think he would have survived lots of his major battles if it weren't for that. Footspeed alone doesn't allow you to do what he does.

Clearly hurt him that time, but managed to stay up.

Anyone got the 3rd round knockdown from last night?

Pay attention to emmanuel's feet. He didn't cross them that time like he did last night when he was put on his AZZ the first time.

Juan is aware of emmanuel's bad habit of crossing squaring up and crossing his feet, so he took advantage of it.

Prior to the 3rd round knockdown, Juan was landing plenty of left hooks downstairs in that round.

He feints downstairs once the left hook threat was established, emmanuel reacts by moving back starting with his lead foot instead of his back foot, and then comes the overhand right putting him on his ass.

They teach beginners in boxing gyms don't ever cross your feet. If you're moving backwards, you start with your rear foot. emmanuel violated these principles and paid the price.

Getting knockdown in the 3rd round was a combination of being rocked and poor balance

I actually had no idea Marquez used that shot in the previous fights. Interesting. I can't tell if it's an overhand or just a very wide, looping hook, but whatever it is Marquez really puts a lot of weight behind the shot. He steps in really far and sweeps the right hand across.

Thanks for the vid! I knew that it seemed familiar, but I couldn't think about it clearly. Thought it was that shot in the 2nd fight when Pac was severely of balanced, I guess it was this shot in the first fight. Exactly the same, except Juan had more speed to go along with the flush shot.

if you look at the two KD, pac seemd initially surprised more than hurt. jmm, though obviously was glass eyed.

for me, round 5 and 6 was the worst beat down that jmm got other than the first pac fight in round 1. his mouth piece even flew after he got tagged by a hook.

    until that fateful last second.

when jmm mouthpiece flew in the middle of the 6th, i thought it was gonna be a cotto beatdown.

There are similarities between the two, but the last one was obviously much more devastating. In the first fight, Marquez is reaching forward with a looping right hand against a retreating Pac. But in the last fight, Pac is coming forward and never sees the punch coming, as Marquez delivers a straight overhand right which he gets full leverage on.

Marquez had more power that is why his puncher hurt Manny more.
