How one defines "Hall of Fame" determines whether you agree with his selection.

If you're talking about his career and resume, then no, he doesn't belong.

But if you're determining his HOF status based on his popularity and the quality of his fights, then yes, he's a first ballot HOFer.

That's exactly what I was about to post. It's the hall of fame and Gatti definitely accomplished that.

I'm giving a perfectly reasonable opinion yet you feel the need to speak to me as if I'm inferior to you you ****ing silly little keyboard warrior/wanker.
If you disagree, say so.Don't resort to acting like the silly little girl that you clearly are.At least try to act like an adult.
And where did I say that he was being considerd as an ATG?

So Hall of Fame means it's about fame?
Good.Margarito should be a first ballot.

To be honest, if it was another fighter I didn't love as much as Gatti, I would be very much opposed to this induction. I understand your point of view and know many others will have the same view.

Just as I understand yours mate, but I don't feel the need to be abusive as if someone suggested that Gatti was a coward.
I thought the guy was fabulous for the sport, but that should be something similar to the non participant award in the way Stallone was inducted.
You shouldn't be inducted on the same grounds as Hearns just for being exciting.
And before anyone says he was a participant,I'm well aware of that, but if this is the way to go,I think there should be a way to define your reason for induction so that Gatti is in a different category to SRL and Larry Holmes.
    I appreciate your post Jeff.

You knew the ramifications of being the one to say it. I'd have to agree with you too.

Yeah, all that matters is fame guys. Can't wait for the Chavez Jr induction. Then the Lucian Bute induction. They're already locks for the HOFame. Might as well stop fighting.

I said he belonged in years ago. I understand the arguement that he wasn't of the same skill caliber that should be required to induction, however exceptions need to be made. He contributed more to the sport than a lot of guys currently inducted. 4 fights of the year in a 6 year period, it's a contribution to the fans that only the likes of Basilio, Louis and Ali have given. Bottom line is that he deserves to be remembered.

    :D

I'm just pissed about what this induction class is going to mean for MAG's drivel. Virgil Hill is no longer the "undefeated guy who made title defenses against some decent guys" -- He's Hall of Famer now. And Ernesto Marcel still isn't? Unforgivable. :-(

Goes to show that being beloved will overshadow being great after some time has passed. IMO, nostalgia shouldn't play this much of a factor into HOF nominations. Should be all about putting in the best of the best.

Let's see if Ivan Robinson gets in.

Then **** that, Mickey Ward needs to be in.

This guy had how many Fight of the Year and FOTY runner up his whole career.

I wonder what is holding the voting panel back?
