just looking at there oppostion and comparing who they have beat

    Felix Trinidad
    Ronald Wright
    DLH
    Robert Allen
    Glenn Johnson
Are the top five hopkins has beaten (tarver isnt there cause he was so poor that night.)

    Kessler
    Lacy
    Older Eubank
    Brewer
    Mitchell
    Are joes best.

So the opposition vs opposition at the time they fought them

    Kessler vs 2001 Trinidad = Kessler TKO12
Lacy vs Wright = Wright UD
    1997 Eubank vs DLH = Eubank TKO11
    Brewer 2002 vs 1999 Allen = Brewer TKO9
Mitchel 2003 vs 1997 Johnson = Mitchell SD

thats calzaghes best five beating hopkins top five.

calzaghe has been in with the bigger men

Doesn't really work like that... Hopkins fought those guys at 160. (With the exception of wright, who IMO has less meaning than his win over Tarver.) Calzaghe fought the bigger men, but Hopkins fought better opposition.

Obviously Calzaghe has been with bigger men because Hopkins was fighting under his natural weight. The guy lost a pro debut at 175 lbs in 1990 and has been starving and running to fight at 160 lbs with much smaller men for 16 years. That should not be the issue because Calzaghe always looked much smaller, even against guys like Nick Manners... The problem is that Joe doesn't have enough experience of getting into a ring with no-home support. He has had incredible support from legions of fans since the Eubank fight in 97 and that has helped a lot in facing adversity... Eubank's mind games are not to be compared with Hopkins' even if Eubank sent Watson to the Hospital and Calzaghe surely had that in his mind all the way to the last bell. Hopkins faced soldiers from Ecuador getting in his locker room in 94, he faced the thousands of Ricans in New York behind that mask of his, he went to fight in Vegas against Oscar... The fact that Joe has been with bigger men doesn't mean **** when he steps in with a guy with that kind of mental toughness and roughness... I can even see that Joe is not at ease with him in the pressers.

    This argument doesn't make sense.

It would be like saying let's look at Floyd's big wins before his fight with DLH: Corrales (130), Genaro Hernandez (130), Castillo (135), Judah(147).

Now compare that to Oscar's big wins:
JCC (at 140), Whitaker (at 147), Quartey (147), Vargas (154)

    Oh, so by your logic:
    JCC KO3 Corrales (w/ a 10 lbs. advantage)
    Whitaker TKO6 Hernandez (w/ a 17 lbs. advantage)
    Quartey KO4 Castillo (w/ a 12 lbs. advantage)
    Vargas KO3 Judah (w/ a 7 lbs. advantage)

Does it mean now that Oscar is better than PBF? No way in hell.

Truth be told, aside from Kessler, an out-of-retirement Eubank, and maybe Lacy (who has proven to a bust), Calzaghe's competition is garbage comparatively speaking. And he has had more than a decade to defend his carton belt against someone worthwhile. Kessler was a big achievement, and taking on Hopkins earns him credit for sure. But to say that his competition rivals any other P4P Top 10 fighter is absurd.

Nothing against you, but this maybe the dumbest post I seen in awhile........Well I better take that back cuz yesterday there was a post about Pac being greater then Leonard. Just the dumbest post today.

You cant match up there opposition and then use that to say that one is better then the other. Truth is Hopkins has fought much much much better fighters.

Besides not many would agree with your picks. First off Brewer was ass and would have lost badly to Allen and Johnson would have beat Mitchell who was very average, not to meniton that was a funny stoppage and I will leave that at that. In fact the only one that I argee with is Wright ud Lacy. Im not sure that Kessler would be able to beat Tito.

No disrespect intended, Dorfmeister, but Hopkins was never starving himself to make weight. Had he been starving himself, I doubt he would have been able to show the power and stamina that was so apparent until he got north of 40. Starving is what Castillo and Corrales did. Hopkins never gained a significant amount of weight after the weigh in (i.e. Gatti) nor did he balloon up in weight in between bouts.

The criticism that Hops gets for fighting at 160 always surprises me. I never saw a guy take such criticism for staying in shape.

You have Wright beating Lacy, yet say all of Calzaghes top five wins beat Hops top five wins. This post is ******ed.

Wrong, Calzaghe is Welsh, he fought many Englishmen in his early career in very hostile enviroments. He fought Robin Reid in England, he fought Chris Eubank in England, David Starie in England, all English boxers in England long before he had the big british fan base, back in those days he was just a sheep-shagger from Wales who didnt have any support when fighting on English turf.

When are people going to accept that they both have similar resumes.

    Both 10+year world champs
    Both 20+ defences
Both were undisputed later in their careers
Both had some bad opponents as late replacements and mandatories (hakkar, daniels..pudwell)

Hopkins may have the higher "profile" wins vs Tito and DLH but they were out of their element and not effective at middleweight...so that balances itself out with the fact Calzaghe is undefeated. Ie no losses in pro debut or to Taylor.

As the beating he gave Joppy showed, Tito was not deemed to be over his head before the Hopkins fight by any means.

How many of Hopkins opponents were prime middle weights? And not guys were had there best years in te lower weight classes?

    Serious questions.

Were Oscar and Winky really serious threats to Hopkins or just very good names that made the most sense business wise?
