Not really, but it was my mistake for not specifying. I mentioned the fighters in parenthesis not to compare resumes of the Mexican greats, but to point out their most important victories. But if were to compare resumes, sure, JCC has a dozen world champs he beat, but none, not one, are in the same league Gomez, the greatest fighter to come out of Puerto Rico and best 122lber of all time, and of Nelson, who constantly with Dick Tiger given the honor of greatest fighter from Africa. I'd rather have wins over 2 ATG's sure votes for the hof than 12 hall of famers non ATGs. The skill level, durability, speed, late ko power, and adaptibility of Sanchez was off the hook. Idc what age he was he's simply the Robinson of the smaller weights. And at 23 I highly doubt he was in his prime. One could imagine at 25-26 how much greater he could have been. I'm sorry, but no Mexican fighter comes close to this kid even the mighty JCC tho some will disagree. Chava at 22-23 was already blasting the Manny Pacquiao of his day and not many gave him a chance when he crushed Gomez. No disrespect to Jmm either, he's a legend, but Chava was very very special.

 

Yeah, Gomez was favored in that fight too (Ortiz may give him a good run as the GOAT from PR). Said Sal had a lot of feminine qualities in the build-up and was considered the #1 P4P puncher in the sport. Sanchez took his bombs without changing his facial expression and flat out beat the ever living **** out of him. He's one of the last great aggressive counter-puncher types; his poise in the ring was unreal.

He also won his 126 title off Little Red here in Phoenix -- my dad was at that. :yep

A unification bout with Pedroza would've been incredible.

On resume, Saldivar has the best argument for being the best.

On skills, Chavez, Olivares and Sanchez are definetly above Finito and the rest of the other guys on your list IMO.

 

Olivares is a Top 10 P4P Puncher.

At his very best, Ruben was a monster.

I truley believe that if he had been as consistent and disciplined like say Salvadar Sanchez, Ruben could have been the greatest Latin boxer of all time.

 

Finito is definetly up there, i would rank him behind those 3 on skill alone.

His lack of a solid inside game keeps him behind those 3 IMO.

Mentioning Sanchez's work ethic and commitment always drives me crazy, though. It's been said he wasn't interested in hanging around much longer anyway, but he could've potentially been way up the ATG list and put the Mexico sub-section placing out of reach had he been given more time. In that small window, taking out Greats, HOFs and world rated contenders at 126 such as Gomez, Nelson, Lopez (x2), Castillo, LaPorte, Castanon, Ford, Cowdell is crazy stuff. He built a great resume and career in less than three years. Him dying has Nothing to do with how his talent, skill set and record is viewed Imo.

And agreed 100% about Sanchez. Its crazy how skilled he was and just how much he accomplished at such a young age and such a short period of time.

I rate the Nelson win higher than most, it seems. Sure, he was on the green side of things, unheralded and worse, a replacement opponent -- But the **** if he fought like one on that night. The recognition came almost immediately and he didn't lose another fight for almost eight years, to Pernell Whitaker, another two divisions up.

 

Azumah Nelson was a man possesed that night, for real.

Aside from Chava, i dont think any featherweight since then to present time would have beaten him that night IMO.
