If he's not careful he'll wind up just like Jones Jr. Won't surprise me to see him get knocked out again if he continues fighting the way he does. He doesn't have the speed or reflexes to keep his hands low and not expect his opponents to take advantage.

Young Manny could move side to side, in and out, real quick, throw rapid counters and keep the other guy off balance with combinations. He's not as busy a fighter from a punch volume standpoint so he'll have more moments where a shot will catch him square on the button.

Marquez didn't land a lucky punch either.

So we acknowledge prime Pacquiao was unbeatable since Pacquiao = Roy Jones?

You should rephrase a bit, lots of Pac fans will take advantage of that.

I agree...i suspect this has destroyed his punch resistance....also it has destroyed his aura among other fighters...

Best mix of offence and defence ever.
At 130 Manny would run from Duran.

I just watched the replay of the fight.

Almost every time Manny stepped back to reset his feet, his hands were right at his ribcage. He left himself open many times in the fight. He was having trouble with his trunks too, often pulling them up or ad******g them. The first knockdown by Marquez was a prelude of what was to come. The commentators were talking about Pacquiao's head movement as if it was something new. Kinda odd to me. Manny used to move his head when he was younger but it was more off counterpunches and lateral movement. Bit more duck and weave. He could afford to be a little bit careless with his head movement and hand positioning because he was always busy firing back with his punches.

I believe he's got to concentrate on keeping his hands up more as he's older and pick a a clear head movement/hand positioning style from the vaults of champions and go with it. He doesn't counter and punch as consistently with the quickness he did when he was a younger fighter so the space needs to be filled with something else. Hands up a lot more. You can't mix the peak-a-boo style with Ali's low handed approach while adding bits of Tyson/Frazier like slip, bob and weave while trying to punch as well. It's a recipe for another KO loss if you ask me.

Marquez was timing him the whole fight and sacrificing his body to do that. He landed shots to keep himself on the scoreboard but you could see that he was looking to counter Pacquiao.

What I'm saying is Pacquiao will start to look more like the Roy Jones who got knocked out by Tarver, Johnson, Danny Green. Roy never changed his style to protect himself better and relied too much on his speed and reflexes that diminished with age.

When Manny was younger he was busier. This made him a hard fighter to counter and catch cleanly because he was always throwing shots at you. Less punch volume from him now means his opponents have more chances to hit him.

I would have him slipping and jabbing, using his good feet and throwing straight left leads with the right hook to the body. Less duck and weave.

    Sorry.

I can't dignify your response when you start with the name-calling.

It's pathetic and ignorant. You can try again if you like though.
