What stopped Cotto From being a great?

Margarito was starting to look better, he was landing a lot more, and who knows what the pressure and shots would have done to Cotto, but we'll never know, as the fight was stopped.

I personally think a two-eyed Margarito is a horrible style matchup for Cotto, though while he managed to block them and has overall improved his defence, has always been a target for the uppercut and hook due to his earmuffs defence

He's a HOF, just not as a good as Pacquiao or Mayweather or Margacheato the first time.

 

Cotto is an 8 round fighter.

 

There's no proof whatsoever that Margarito used the hardened wraps against him. The first fight was in Nevada not Cali. Different commission = different procedures. In Nevada the commission provides the gauze for the wraps. Additionally, his face looked just as ****ed up before the stoppage in the rematch as it did at the same point in the first fight. Was Margo cheating in the second fight too?


I don't even understand the premise of this thread. Cotto met and probably exceeded his potential. He was a very good fighter, but he was also protected to a degree. He had the networks supporting him his entire career and was given comeback fights against weak paper champs or weak contenders for vacant titles every time that he lost or went to a different weight class.

 

Absolutely, I'd like to add to that that true greats don't get floored in every one of their goddam fights

 

He didnt land nothing in his last round but short punches in the clinch while holding cotto with the other hand.
Imo Margo couldnt do nothing,but we all have different views.
Cotto has a flaw that he fades away how the fight goes while Margo gets stronger.Those two dont mix very well.
And Cotto was always a bull going forward,if you stoped that,he couldnt find a way out,that was the first Margo fight,he couldnt break him,and Margo is an animla,loaded gloves or not.
I would have loved to see two eyed Margarito rematch though.

 

this plus his skin is made of tissue paper, in fact I can even see marquez beating him even before the 4rth pac fight. If he is not the best at this era of welterweights dominated by small welters, floyd/pac. What more in the past against true deadly welters?

 

Defense, reflexes, speed.

 

He leans over too much, leaving him susceptible to uppercuts and making his right hand a useless weapon. He only has one rhythm so good boxers could always figure him out. The leaning over also causes his body to be inefficient by restricting his diaphragm, probably explains his stamina issues. Poor posture and balance.

 

Its arguable that Cotto is hall of fame worthy , But what i dont understand is why people keep talking as if Cotto is 120% completely done . The guy lost a fight , Okay.. time to move on . In my eyes fighters from 147-154 should still view Miguel as a very dangerous/Risky opponent .

BWAH... Margarito started the fight with 2 eyes and his **** defense got his right eye shut the **** down. "They stopped the fight" < As if the fight was stopped for no ****in reason. He got his ass humiliated in the 2nd fight. All that poser macho **** "You cang hurr me Cotto!" and yet... the bum could barely land a punch a round.
