Damn shame. Clearly trying to build him up more to make a fight with Mayweather more attractive to casuals. *******s.
Well he can't give it to Donaire or Marquez because they aren't Top Rank I suppose the other candidates would have been Danny Garcia and Abner Mares but Guerrero did move up 2 divisions after a long lay off and beat decent oppostion
Oh wow my bad. I keep thinking that was this year. I guess I ignored the Nishioka fight due to Nishioka being such a disgrace in that fight. Nishioka was a shutout for Donaire of a good fighter who did not come t fight but that is not his fault. Ok that honestly was probably his best performance as he made a good fighter fear him so much he hardly threw any. Dude the Vasquez fight was close. Vasquez would have some good rounds when he relied on his jab. As soon as he would abandon it Donaire would get inside on him and work him. I mean Donaire should be one of the top guys for the award but it is not that impressive. No one really stands out to me this year.
Anyone know off the top of their head who the lightest (weight) fighter to ever win this distinction? FOTY.
RING Magazine, while owned by Golden Boy for years now, has really only become COMPLETE gutter trash over the past 18 months. It is useless, which is unfortunate because it has always been a solid stick of basing "semi-consensus" rankings of the era. I guess that's what forums are for now...
You'd think Golden Boy would give it to Garcia? Clearly being done to boost Mayweather/Guerrero, although it doesn't need some BS award handed out to try to do so. It is a solid matchup and everyone knows it, those who don't are trolls who think every great fighter is obligated to jump up two whole divisions every fight.
I had originally figured on Floyd-Guerrero with Canelo as the co-feature to further hype an inevitable September clash, but all this recent talk about them (Floyd-Alvarez) getting to business on May 4th has me kind of dissapointed now. While it would leave Floyd's September fight kind of up in the air, Cinco de Mayo > Independence Day for a 'mega-event'.
Note to upcooming boxers, beat Andre Berto and good things happen atsch Well Congrats I guess, enjoy your May 4th gutsy yet embarrassing wide decision loss to Floyd Mayweather....:conf
