Cotto is a far greater fighter than Gatti, who was also one of my favorites. Cotto's win over a still game Mosley eclipses any win of Gatti's. In fact, I think it is highly underrated.

In an era in which the best fighters are more known for not fighting each other, Cotto faced them both. And a younger Mosley. And a prime, likely plastered Margarito.

Cotto's right hand was never the same after the car accident. And yet he still was able to compete and win... I see you are a proud member of generation gay...YOU would conclude Cotto to be a "bully.."

"Oh no mom, he is punching the other guy too hard... what a bully!"

Don't get mad at me because I call it like I see it. Cotto fought two of the dumbest fights of this era in his fight with Margo and Pac. He's easily frustrated see his fights with urkal and clottey for reference. When he sees he is in trouble he fouls like against Judah or melts down like against Margo. To make matters worse he's a sore loser and acts like a diva *****. Cotto is your classic bully fighter when the going is good everything is fine but as soon as you hit him in the mouth or is faced with adversity he melts down and retreats or quits. Good fighter hall of fame level but not atg.

And Margarito fought a brilliant fight against Manny? Or was he brilliant against Shane?

How about Marquez...Was he briliant against FLoyd?

Question: Why didn't Cotto hit Manny low...or Margarito...or Torres? Did they somehow not have him hurt?

That punch from Zab was WAY overhyped... Cotto was not hurt and certainly was NOT in danger of getting dropped. Watch his legs for the rest of that sequence.

You mentioned meltdown... What would you call Zab's behavior against Floyd?

Did you see Cotto's react to Trott's low blow? Was he rolling around on the floor like a *****?

    Son... Just stop.

Cotto has poor stamina... When you see him retreating it has more to do with him not being able to keep the pace of his opponent due to his shitty stamina. It is the typical 6-7th round Cotto gassing out. He was a chubby kid not born to be a blessed athlete and somehow he made a career for himself. Cotto HOF for sure.

Let me know when Cotto starts choking refs, or throwing stools or referring to officials as "fackers!!!!" like Chavez Sr liked to do.

You mention sore loser? he hugged Trout and congratulated him on the win. Have you watched Chavez whine like a ***** on a microphone after Randall whooped that overrated ass? Did you seehim blaming the ref and calling Richard Steele a "Facker!!!" Cotto is all class and if he was more concerned with his family post fight, than giving you an interview, so beit. Hater... Just admit you are a hater. Texas is full of them and we see you.

    Pretty much this.

Add defense/bad habits, being a tweener (huge at 140 but chin wasn't as good as it was at 147 thanks to draining, at 147 he wasn't huge and the big guys gave him problems), not being versatile enough (at 147 I think he wanted to outclass guys from the outside but offered little when it came to stopping the rythm of some guys...lacked effective clinching, spoiling in spots to conserve energy, etc).

Basically if he had some of those things he would be pushing it. Having said all that it might sound as though I'm being critical, but it is pretty remarkable how good he is with all of his flaws.

Cotto was always a good, solid boxer with a good boxing background, but he lacked any spectacular quality that seperates the greats from the good. Mayweather had his spectacular defense, Pacquiao had his spectacular speed, Sugar Ray Leonard had spectacular everything, etc..... Cotto had a good jab, good defense, and strong punches........... nothing that would make the audience go wow. Plus his silent, serious, and sulking demeanor doesn't help.

The main problem Miguel Cotto has in terms of never being able to be "Great" is very simple.
Miguel Cotto has the frame, the reach, the power, the chin and the body type of a lightweight.
When he was at 140 IMO he was 5 lbs. north of his best weight.
He was completely overmatched at every turn at 147 and never really looked natural at that weight and 154 he looked like a midget! A true "tweener" he was probably a bit to slow and immobile to have been a great even at 135.
Some fighters can use their best asset as they jump in weight: Cotto's best fighting chance was to smother opponents with thudding punches and a very good body attack. When forced to box and move: Cotto looked like a fish out of water.
Truth is, I don't think he ever trained hard enough and in all reality shoud have never fought above 140.

One of the stupidest things I've read on this forum. He was dying to make 140 and you think his best weight was at 135? Cotto looked stronger and more durable as he moved up in weight, he used to get rocked all the time at the lighter weight. He has the frame of a middleweight, he has large bone structure.

When Cotto stop going to the body, but he has made great strides and always tried to improved on his weaknesses like in the Margarito fight, and he made great adjustments in the Mayweather fight....I think you guys underrate Cotto because he didn't dominate the 147/154 weight class like he did with the Jr. Middleweight.
