I swear to God Jim Lampley was drunk during the Wright/Soliman fight

:good One of my favorite HBO telecasts, the team was very relaxed and laid back that night. I think a lot of it had to do with Sam Soliman's "unique" style and the general unorthodoxy of the fight, lol. Merchant, Lampley, and Steward were all cracking jokes like they were a few regular Joe's watching a fight in a bar or something.

There's a reason why Foreman and Lampley didn't get along.

 

I don't remember the telecast but I would imagine what the jokes would be. Soliman was that crazy guy who kept on smiling at everyone and everything. He fought like the new kid at the gym, he makes Ricardo Mayorga look like a intelligent boxer. :yep

 

Just watched the first four rounds:

Soliman fighting "like a spastic crow."
"How are you going to anticipate where he throws? It's like anticipating where a fly will land on your arm."
"I had to give Soliman round 2. By the Lederman count he threw about 900 punches."

Interesting hearing them talk about the Mayweather/Winky negotiations. Also noticed how much they had each fallen in their announcing in the past 7 years.
