Calzaghe got dropped by an almost 50 year old RJJ?

    The WBO was not a legit organization when calzaghe was racking up defenses.

    Calzaghe was a skinny little physically undeveloped 18-year-old welterweight who was in his FIRST year as a senior, whereas Smyth was a fully developed, bull strong and muscular 20-year-old man who had two more years more experience fighting against MEN than Joe did. And Calzaghe was beating him silly until he gassed. It was a case of man against boy and boy ran out of gas.

    In his next year at senior level, or actually I think it was the year after that (when he was more physically developed), Calzaghe stopped all of his opponents on route to winning his ABA title up at light-middle and all bar one at middleweight the following year. And yes, he was a fantastic amateur. He won three consecutive ABA titles at different weights, a feat that had only been accomplished once before in over 72 years. The only reason he didn't win an Olympic medal is because he wasn't selected to go by the Welsh ABA, which was a ****ing travesty. He'd been racking up titles like they were bits of candy since he was a school boy and they completely ****ed him over if favour of some guy who stood zero chance of winning a bronze let alone the gold.

    Regarding Klemetsen stopping Smyth in a round, well that's hardly surprising as Klemetsen was always a massive banger. Go ask Clinton Woods who hit him the hardest I can assure you he won't say it was your hero Jones. He said Klemetson and some other chap who's name escapes me were the hardest punchers he ever fought. By the way, I'm pretty sure Calzaghe KO'd Ole Klemetson in a round in the amateurs.

    Calzaghe was a sensation in the Junior European Championships (139lb class) in Prague in 1990 and robbed blind against the Romanian (Joe's last loss ever) nearly as bad as Jones Jr/Korea.

    Calzaghe is one of the most overrated fighters on here. The guy even said himself that he didn't want tough fights, that he knew his limitations which is why he would want the crown jewels to fight Roy Jones etc, yet people still argue that he is some all conquering boxing god.

    Everyone knows Calzaghe is a fraud . Nothing new there .

    Fighting G-man would've been frightening . Calzaghe gets put to sleep in 2 rounds .

    Calzaghe signed to fight Steve Collins which is something a prime Roy Jones refused to do.

    Steve Collins then pulled out of the Calzaghe fight.

    calzaghe did become a good amateur but assuming he would have won a medal at the olympics is a pretty big stretch. i've heard the story over and over about how joe was robbed of his chance to go to the olympics. do they just pick who goes in wales? is there not a tourney of some sort?

    pretty sure joe ko'ed ole in 1 in the amateurs? this may have happened but i've heard too many joe stories to believe anything unless i have better proof. many times i've seen that joe beat chris byrd and they never even fought.

    almost 50 year old RJJ? Roy is now 43.. And tha twas some years back. I think the win is a good win. Not against a prime Roy but he beat him fairly and decisively.

    I disagree with the win being good... Average win at best considering how far Roy was physically from where he once was... Calzaghe was not his peak probably, but he was still fighting at an elite level... Roy was a step below at that point.

    Roy's last win against an elite opponent was about 5 years earlier, before 2 devastating knockouts... Calzaghe knew Roy was no longer a threat, he said it with his own words.
