    Congratulations Sergio!

    :party

This might not seem a major achievement, but Martinez was in competition with Lionel Messi, the reigning footballer/soccer player of the year, and a man who just broke the record for most goals ever scored in a calendar year. Messi actually came third, behind Sergio and Argentina's sole gold medallist at London 2012, taekwondo fighter Sebastian Crismanich.

I'm not even a fan of Messi but to have him anywhere but first, let alone third is just stupid. Maybe he had won it so many years in a row that they wanted to give it to someone else just to change it up a bit.

Pretty strange to be honest, Messi should have got the first spot and Martinez the second.
I am glad Sebastian Crismanich got into the top 3 at least. He is an amazing fighter.

The only reason I can think of forMessi not being awarded it is he didn't win anything with his team, despite all his individual accomplishments. Regardless, it's great to see Sergio finally getting the recognition he deserves.

Surprised... Messi is #1 in football, Martinez is not even the best in the middleweight division.

Apparently, it's okay to be gay for Sergio Martinez around here.

I read it in my newspaper this morning, and although I'm a big Maravilla fan I think it's complete nonsense.
That's probably why it made it into the paper to begin with, cause they rarely have any boxing news at all. Not even JMM KO6 Pac made it in, just to give you guys an idea how rare reports on boxing are in there. :!:

It's ridiculous he's ahead of Messi, who's already established himself as the GOAT.

Good for Sergio though, I guess.

Who is better than Martinez then?

Would have been stunned if Messi had came second but THIRD!?
