Interesting points, I'll have to think about it more. I agree that Trinidad is somewhat overrated, a tier below Mosley and De La Hoya IMO, I simply called him an ATG because he is so widely regarded as one. Toney VS McCallum is an interesting question...Toney's career was more spotty & inconsistent but I believe he reached greater heights with a few of his signature wins. He's another borderline ATG I could see arguments for and against. How faded would you say McCallum was when he fought Toney? Less physically prime but at a greater technical peak, or just a little flat out older?

Roy jones jr has NO legacy at 160,,168,,175 or over 200 pounds

He never fought the elite fighters at any weight division he boxed in.

roy jones jr won a vacant middleweight title and made 1 defence he never fought the best at 160 at that time
    John David Jackson
Chris Pyatt and he Ducked the two elite fighters of the division Julian Jackson and Gerald McClellan

A list of the elite fighters at 168 that roy jones was Ducking when he was in that division
    Graciano Rocchigiani
Steve Collins 2 weight champion at the time
Nigel Benn 2 weight champion at the time
Michael Nunn 2 weight champion at the time
chris eubank 2 weight champion at the time
    Charles Brewer
    Frankie Liles
    Robin Reid

BEST at 175 was Dariusz Michalczewsk
roy jones won the vacant wbc title vacanted by Fabrice Tiozzo.
Fabrice Tiozzo lost his wba title to Virgil Hill then came back and beat Mike McCallum for the WBC light heavyweight title.

Dariusz Michalczewski beat Virgil Hill for the undisputed light heavyweight championship and holds the record for the most consecutive successful title defenses at light heavyweight 23 defenses. He was champ for 9 years an had a incredible 48 and 0 winning run

roy jones ducked prime Dariusz Michalczewski for 8 years and did not fight him even when he was shot

why did jones fight 35yr old taver instead of Michalczewski?......:think

why did jones fight ruiz instead of lennox lewis?.......... :think

Roy jones was never HW champion of the world....NEVER

Too the people that hype on about prime jones jr take off the rose tinted glasses he lost too a bunch of old guys anyway
    Antonio Tarver was 35
    Glen Johnson 35
    Danny Green 35
Bernard Hopkins 45 and joe calzaghe was 36 and at the very end of his career

With the right discipline, there's no telling what Toney could have done. Roy Jones always beats any version of Toney, Roy was just too good, but other than that who else could have beaten him at his best? He could have been a great SMW and LHW, with a good run at CW

As for Mike v Toney, I think Mike was a technical peak, but his legs had slowed down, still, beating a 35 year old Mccallum is an excellent win.

Both Mike and James Toney would have taken Trinidad apart at MW or JMW

Yet despite all the things you just said and given all the fighters rjj "ducked" he will go down in boxing history as one of the atg of the sport while your idol joe will be the guy who didn't travel in order to fight the big dogs in boxing until they, like him, were old. The win over jones meant nothing and anyone with a half a brain knows that. And those people who consider roy a hype job include boxing experts and historians who know more and have analyzed far more fighters than you could think of. Face it he was a great and will maintain that title as long as the sport continues.

The hate on here is sickening... Beat no elite fighter??? didn't he beat something like 20 world champions?

    Toney
    Hopkins
    Tarver
    Ruiz
    Griffin
    Hill

Plus he constantly dominated common opponents in a much more impressive fashion than the ones he "ducked" that just made people think he was on another level alltogether..

Titles in 4 different weight classes, from MW to HW, it takes a special fighter to do that, if not, how come more have not done it? Also, how many can you name that dropped from HW and beat the #1 LHW in his very next fight?? The list is very short, something that gets way overlooked.

Show a little respect and quit making me hate your pathetic face.

    You're trolling, but...

    Jorge Castro
    James Toney
    Bernard Hopkins
    Thulani Malinga
    Virgil Hill
    Reggie Johnson
    Montell Griffin
    Clinton Woods
    Julio Gonzales
    John Ruiz
    Antonio Tarver

Few other decent contender type fighters too (Lucas, Pazienza,Telesco, Del Valle,Harding, old Mike McCallum)
