Terry Marsh.....how good was he ?

Where ya got him regarding ratings ?

Seems a boxer.......with a bit of strength.....kinda.

If he was fighting now.....how does he do in the current domestic light-welter situation......and beyond ala euro/worlds ?

Not accurate enough with his shots.

 

They say old fighters often cant pull the trigger but that was never a problem for terry

If he had been more accurate.........

 

He was a very determined man.
I know people who grew up with him - and basically if you said ' you can't climb that wall - it's impossible'...He would eventually climb the wall losing finger nails and breaking bones if need be cos he was mad.

 

Hard to tell how good he was.

From what I remember he was a box-fighter, pretty upright with a decent orthodox style but he retired in a rush and never fought against the top world fighters around.

If he was matched up at domestic level now would handle all but Khan pretty easily. Wouldn't beat Khan as not really a mover or puncher.

im from basildon and used to train at the terry marsh center from what ive heard he was good but not amazingly good...also heard hos brother is now his sister but dont know how true that is

 

He was forced to retire for medical reasons, epilepsy or diabeates i think? no choice in the matter.

 

Epilepsy forced his retirement. As for the descriptions of his style, I can only assume you didn't watch anything other than the world title fights. He was a classic stand up British boxer, until he needed to do something else. He had a good chin, one flash knockdown in his career. Not a banger, but won and defended European and World Titles all by stoppage. A great engine, total fitness fanatic. When he fought Manley he went after him from the off and never gave the highly regarded slick American an inch to work. It was not Terrys usual style , but it threw Manley right off his game and it was a Lacy esque beat down. Floored him at the end of the 9th and stopped him at the start of the tenth. Against Kameda he got a terrible cut from a clash of heads early on, so had to attack. He did so ferociously, in the 5th or 6th he held his arms cross armed in front of his face, Kameda wailed away at the body and Terry laughed at him. It broke Kamedas heart and Terry stopped him soon after. People often say he was a bleeder but its highly exageratted now, I think he dominates at Euro level, beats Khan too. At the world level he is good enough to mix with them, does he win ? Don't know.

When Manley beat Hinton for the title, he was asked what was going through his mind during the tough moments of the fight. Joe Frazier was his hero so he said he just kept thinking of Frazier during the fight.
Terry knew about this so when they fought and Terry was putting a beating on him Terry said "Joe Frazier is not helping you tonight pal".
Totally broke Manley.

He was a good fighter but his stamina is what put him at World level.
