Let's take a look at the genetic influence on SMW from the guys with Irish, Walish, English, etc. genes.

    Andre Ward - half Irish.
Joe Calzaghe - half from Wales.
    Mikkel Kessler - half English.
    Carl Froch - English.

Considering how small an area England/Ireland/Wales etc. is, isn't it impressive how many fighters with genes from there are making it big in SMW?

You could even push out to the Republic of Ireland and include Steve Collins in there

Yeah, and Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn. While they're not genetically british, they could have absorbed some British genes by having sex with british women. Let's not forget Brian Magee, who is also a good, even if not elite, boxer.

Even Wards genetics have nothing to do with Britain.

    They're Irish.

The latest research into Irish DNA has confirmed that the early inhabitants of Ireland were not directly descended from the Keltoi of central Europe. In fact the closest genetic relatives of the Irish in Europe are to be found in the north of Spain in the region known as the Basque Country. These same ancestors are shared to an extent with the people of Britain - especially the Scottish.

Robin Reid, Glen Catley and Ritchie Woodhall were also English world champions at SMW. Hardly greats though. Its a strong division for the UK, I'd say it suits our natural body size perhaps.
