I know Gatti has a reputation for making great comebacks but after 6 rounds of getting beat up. the ref should have stopped it in the 6th or the beginning of thhe 7th when Gomez was going nuts.

That fat f*ck ref was disgraceful

I don't agree in the slightest. It was stopped as it should have been as Gatti was counted out. He was losing every round but he was competitive in two of the last three. Not sure what the hell you're talking about.

    Stop being a *****!

It's bad enough that boxers now wear pillows strapped to their hands and fights are stopped sometimes at the closest sign of a fighter being rocked........some of the stoppages i've seen over the last few years have been annoyingly quick.

Let the fighters fight and let the KO's come!

    *****??

He's 35, he lost his last two fights, which weren't even close. The bell's tolled for him.

There was atleast a thirty second span where Gatti only threw one punch back. When ur head is snapping more then ur fists. The ref needs to step in. I don't like premature stopppages but the ref should be there to save gatti from himself.

Even still, the ref didn't stop it. Larry Hazard ran in to stop it.

I thought the referee did his job just fine. Gatti was still throwing punches until getting Ko'd. I am just glad that Gatti retired.

I think it was stopped at the right time. Gatti was still throwing punches back. In fact, didn't he connect with what looked like a pretty good punch just as Gomez threw the right that ended it?

i really thought Gatti was going to step it up in the middle of the round when gomez looked tired. he's just completely shot at this point though. as he had ZERO timing, jabs weren't even landing effectively, and he was missing punch after punch that at his prime he would have landed and followed up on

I would have stopped it somewhere in the first.

Exactly. What the hell is with these squeemish boxing "fans." Go watch tennis or golf if legitimate KOs offend your sensibilities.

If anything, refs stop matches WAY too quick these days. Fights should be allowed to go to their natural conclusion. Just like in the old days.:yep

Coming from a Calzaghe fan somehow this doesn't surprise me. Hey, you know what. I think we shoulda stopped the Manfredo bout somewhere during the pre-fight press conference cuz Calzaghe was lookin' at him awful tough. :patsch

A legitimate ko to me is when a fighter gets caught by a punch he didn't see and can't come back from it.

Don't see the point of needing to see a guy down after taking twenty straight punches without being able to retaliate.

What boxing really needs are more guys like Ali who look like **** after their career is done because they were willing to accept more punishment than their body was able to take.

So this guy thinks it should have been stopped earlier. There's another thread going right now where someone thinks it was a bad stoppage!

The polar extremes of lunacy on this board never fail to amuse. :p
