I can see what you're saying, but anyone who loses will say they can do much better, mainly because they lost, add the criticism he received on top of that. But yeah, I don't think he left it all in the ring, mainly because he was probably surprised by the speed, power, stamina, accuracy and angles of Pacquiao. No doubt he regretted not opening up. But in the moment, 12 rounds isn't really that long.
I've been thinking the same thing. Clottey is a decent fighter and if he was to come back, I think he'd be a top 5 welterweight. He got a lot of stick for the Pacquiao fight, maybe that's why he's taking a long time off :? Just checked, he fought Calvin Green last year and won TKO in the 2nd. Nothing else since then.
True true! 12 rounds is a long time (36 mins) but it can be over in a flash if you are struggling to cope with your opponent. Its a shame I think he could be in the mix with the other 154lbers.....
who did he beat? a shop-worn, blown-up lw in corrales and a blown-up jww coming off a severe beatdown against cotto in zab judah? thats it. and everytime he stood up in competition he folded like a $3.00 k-mart lawn chair(cotto, margo, paq). the problem when you headbut another fighter and said fighter elects to continue on even though he couldve quit for the ND is that the judges rightfully give all the close rounds to the recipient of the ghannan noggin headbutt. joshua clottey is ****. hes bad for boxing. and now hes gone. forever.
I would like to see Clottey back at 154. He isn't young but he is good technically and has never taken much damage he could still be in some good fights
i bet on clottey in that fight and after he hopkins-like headbutted miguel and the warrior cotto eleceted to continue even though he couldve stopped the fight i thought i was in now way going to lose. leave it up to a heartless clottey not to be able to beat a one-eyed miguel cotto.
I've watched Pac/ Clottey recently, and t was clear to me that clottey had the blueprint to beat Pac. Then he just shut it off like a faucet. Clearly fixed, hate to say it cause I love this sport so much.
If Clottey opened up his guard more, would have been more interesting for Pac. Clottey did the right thing with his guard........ to survive
