What exactly is a lineal champion?

    Is it just the consensus #1 fighter in the division, or is there more to it than that? When does a fighter become the lineal champion?

    To be the Man you got to beat the Man! But if the 'MAN' retires without losing to a successor then you need to establish yourself as the best by beating the best in that division.

    Sergio Martinez is a good example after he beat pavlik who beat taylor who beat hopkins etc.
