Rees vs Burns should be made

Love Rees, mainly because he knocked out he frenchman that cheated against Jono Thaxton but Burns would beat him. Burns needs to fight someone who is genuinely world class, stop messing about with fights like Mitchell, Walsh et al, he is supposed to be a world champion, fight the best in the world, no excuses.

however? was thaxton cheated? from what I recall he got his ass whooped fair and square because he had no defence as usual

Ah yes, I knew Thaxton had him hurt early but forgot about the gumshield, still though, that was actually smart from Mezaache as long as the ref buys it.. Hopkins has done this sort of stuff time and time again and thats called being "savvy" and "crafty", a French guy does it and he's a cheating French ****

come on mate, while that was unfair on Thaxton, he had ample time to win this fight in the preceding rounds and he couldn't do it, Rees would have.

 

Frank and Hearn making a deal on Burns/Rees? MUCH more likely that Frank makes a deal on Burns/Broner (because, btw, Burns isn't afraid of Broner, hell not even Frank, it would be Alex Morrison I would look at as being the reason this fight may not be made any time soon)

rival promoters mate, ask yourself why Burns and Vazquez are regarded as two of the top lightweights in the world, yet Vazquez never gets a mention from Broner and his camp?

 

Thats a decent fight and despite neither being a huge puncher I can bet they will come to fight.

Rees has rebuilt and deserves a more well known fight like Murray/Mitchell or a fight that progresses him onto the world stage.

 

Is he not? how many times has Burns said "I want to push for a unification fight", "big fight" or "true world title fight" in his interviews in the last year? Have you actually heard Burns speak lately? The guy has been screaming for a unification fight

As for the agreement...No, there was talk, then an offer from Frank, and Rees refused the offer because Frank wanted a load of options, and I don't blame Rees for that.

 

Savvy my arse that was blatant cheating!!! The ref shouldnt have let it pass. If i was Jono I would have hit him anyway! I genuinely think he would have finished him.

It makes me rage, still.

 

Rees should face a fringe contender like Murray or recently, Mitchell, while there are negotiations for bigger fights. Rees beats both, I don't see why a fighter has to wait months on end between fights, then get a warm up, wait months on end again, and be told that the money isn't good enough. A year in a fighters life is precious, , they don't get any younger, they need to be kept active, and promoters need to do their job.

It's unfortunate that Rees/Murray didn't come off, for while I think there would only be one winner, it would have done him the world of good.

 

I can see that, it is quite blatant, but the ref ignored it, and some might argue that if he got away with it then that excuses it.

 

You've probably noticed that there have been threads around here saying that very same thing, because Burns HAS called for the big fights, but like PityTheFool and said so often, Ricky will not go against Alex Morrison because Morrison has stuck by him when everyone else dismissed him. But it seems like Morrison, not Frank, not Ricky, is the one who does not want this fight.

And he actually stated at the Walsh pre-fight press conference that the things people were saying about him in regards to the fight were unflattering, and you could see it bothered him to the core. He looked like a man ready to explode as he talked up Liam Walsh while inside he's dying for a big fight

This fella went and fought the unbeaten, 22-0 British champion Graham Earl on short notice as a massive underdog who was a cert to lose, he won in a non title fight, was dismissed as Earl being off his game....

He went and fought Alex Arthur, the reigning European, Commonwealth, and British Superfeatherweight champion, in his back yard, in his THIRTEENTH FIGHT, and he was not given a warm welcome, be sure of that. Just because Ricky was in Scotland, does not mean he was at "home". He lost in a good 12 rounder.

Ricky fought Carl Johanesson at very short notice...once again, in Johannessons back yard, as the underdog. He was put down twice by a fearsome body attack, and also once by an overhand right. But Ricky sucked in the breath, got bakc up, and finished the fight, again losing on points.

Do you really think this guy is afraid of fighting Adrien Broner in a 12 round boxing match?
