Did Jesus Chavez take a dive against Mayweather?

    I once read where Jesus Chavez was handed a temporary trainer for this fight, and that trainer stopped the fight prematurely (9th round) under orders from Top Rank. Is there any merit to that?

    I did watch this fight several times, and by the end, Floyd's face was more marked up than Chavez's, and Chavez spent most of that last round being the aggressor, pushing Mayweather forward into the corners, throwing body punches up to the 9th round bell. After that round ended, you could see Chavez lucid, upright and alert, and without a dispirited or broken demeanor.

    This fight is also one of Harold Leaderman's worst judging efforts. He had it even going in to the 9th round!

    Chavez was getting messed up that last round. He was finally starting to get pushed back and his head was reacting violently to those shots

    I can't remember where I read that, it's been a few years ago. But I think ronnie Shields was given to chavez for this bout, rather than J.Chavez's longtime trainer.

    OK well Chavez was getting his head snapped back by upper cuts and to be honest Floyd couldn't miss.....he did keep coming forward but it wasnt effective he was getting beat up!

    Good stoppage imo. Did you watch the fight what do you think? You think there was a possibility of Chavez winning?

    Ronnie Shields did the honorable thing.

    If this was a dive it is the worst dive in history.

    Chavez fought his heart out and gave a great account of himself.

    lol, are you kidding or are you ******ed.

    Chavez took over 30 flush power uppercuts and was getting picked apart. His health was in serious danger. Any trainer with any sort of competence ends that fight there.

    chavez fought his heart out and gave castillo the blueprint to frustrate floyd in his next fight. shields' decision was not popular with others in the corner but jesus was starting to take some heavy punishment.

    At the end of this fight, as unbelivably unplausible as it seems, Floyd's face was more marked up than Chavez's. Floyd actually had a cut eye from a punch. This fight was a classic case of looking past your opponent, taking for granted that you'll get the win. Floyd made that same mistake against Castillo.

    Similar to the Augustus fight in that he was competitive in an inside fight and could have continued, but was eating far too many flush shots over the course of the fight.
